Would the Chief consider coming home (South Carolina Native) and taking over the DC job when it opens if the HC job could be his in a few years (When Spurrier Leaves)?

Chief has had the chance to be a HC, and passed...not what he wants. Also, I dont think he will leave LSU for USCe.

It appears Chief is looking at other options. Sure would like to see the Gamecocks in the mix!

According to WAFB's sources and other reports, LSU defensive
coordinator John Chavis has been offered an extension by the Tigers but
still hasn't signed it. LSU's new offer would add two years to the final
year of Chavis' already existing package, for a new three-year deal.


The successful coach has already been courted by Texas A&M to fill
their vacancy at defensive coordinator and other schools will likely
come calling, if they haven't already. Monday night LSU head coach Les
Miles was asked if he thought "The Chief" would be back.
"I have
no real feeling there," Miles answered. "I'm going to speak to all of my
coaches. I think there's a want to be here and an enjoyment of LSU. I
think they realize the advantages we have as a football program and
team. Again, they're a talented group of men and they have
opportunities."
Chavis is certainly well-compensated, being paid
1.3 million dollars annually by LSU. However many fans would argue he's
well-worth it, as the Tigers' defense has certainly carried the team to a
large amount of success since he joined Miles' staff in 2009.

"When you have good people, you invest in them," continued Miles, "And I
think we've got a pretty good staff. It costs money to have them here. I
recognize we pay our staff very well. And I think that's good news. I
think that's one of the reasons we win. I think that's one of the
reasons why we anticipate winning."
But this hasn't been one of
LSU's better teams in recent memory. The 8-4 Tigers take on the 7-5
Notre Dame Fightin' Irish December 30 in The Music City Bowl played in
Nashville, Tennessee.

Nothing in what you posted suggest Chief is looking anywhere, much less USCe.

He has been a prominent defensive coordinator for nearly two decades, it is possible he's content to be a defensive coordinator.

Who is to say that Spurrier would let Lorenzo Ward go anyway? Maybe they just replace a position coach or two and leave Ward at the helm.
