New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton spoke to the media on Thursday about retaining defensive line coach Ryan Nielsen on his staff.
Nielsen was very close to becoming the next defensive coordinator of LSU in Baton Rouge, but instead was given a three-year extension from the Saints and a new title of assistant head coach.
“He’s someone that very soon you’re going to see as a head coach at the NFL level,” Payton said. “He’s extremely talented and I’m fired up that he’s returning and I’m fired up that he’s signed on for three more years.”
