  • Thinks Bo Davis is doing a nice job with the interior of the D-line. Calls it a work in progress, but thinks they've showed improvement daily.
  • He and his family were really excited to get back here. Said it was very hard to leave Missouri, but you can't take for granted the opportunity to go home. Calls LSU's DC job one of his dream jobs.
  • Tries to allow his players to play free. Tries to give them opportunities to go out there and make plays.
  • Said he worked with Brian Kelly to assemble the coaching staff. Said it helps that he worked with everyone of the defensive assistants at previous stops.
  • PJ Woodland is a competitor. He's fiesty, physical and he can run. They've thrown him out there with the one's and with the best receivers, and he competes. Says he's been really impressed with him.
  • Thinks Harold Perkins has done a phenomenal job buying into what they want to do. Thinks they can use him in a variety of ways, but they want to find one thing and let his excel at that first. They're going to find out what he does best and build around that.
  • Says they want to get Harold Perkins to learn inside linebacker. Thinks he just needs more reps in practice and in games. Calls it an instinctual position, and the way you build that instinct is from reps.
  • Says the No. 1 goal is getting this defense to play with energy and passion.
  • Says this defense is very much a work in progress, but feels they're very far away from where they began.
  • He's seen some ups and downs from the secondary, but thinks they have a very aggressive group. Sage Ryan and Major Burns have stuck out to him so far. Says the corners have grown more than any group this spring. Feels they have a lot of depth in the secondary.
  • He bases his scheme off his personnel. Likes to have two guys you can put on an island outside and play a lot of man, but they're going to do whatever's best for his players.
  • He wears cleats at practice because he wants to get after his guys. Jokes if he's able to catch them, then that's a problem. On a more serious note, it helps him when he's demonstrating drills.
