Did a lot of second down work today, but tomorrow they will transition to full pads and start working on all downs and red zone. It's been a progression, but they're really about to ramp it up.
Team is pretty injury free at the moment. Had some small things, but they've all been participating and recovering well. Zavion Thomas has a slight hamstring issue, but it's not major. They're being careful with him.
Says virtually seven coaches will have a hand in special teams this year. There are areas they need to improve on such as the return game and in kickoff coverage. Says that needs to be really big for them.
Says Kyren Lacy, Chris Hilton and CJ Daniels are going to be integral parts of the offense, and the rest of them will contribute in smaller ways. They've rotated guys like Aaron Anderson and some of the other backups into the first-team because they want Nussmeier to be comfortable with them.
Says Jay'Viar Suggs has true pass rushing ability, which you don't always see in defensive tackles.
Mac Markway has decided that he is not going to play for the team anymore. He informed them last night.
Says Blake Baker's system has allowed their players to play fast and free. They don't have to think about everything they do.
Thinks the young DBs have put together some good periods, but hasn't quite been as consistent as he'd like. Says it's not at a championship level. He wants them to string good practices together, not just good periods. However, he sees them getting closer and closer.
Thinks Will Campbell has really improved as a leader since arriving on campus in 2022. He was not and is not a big talker, but when he speaks, the team listens. He's one of the most respected players on the team. Says they're going to ask him to do some things this year that he's never done before, but thinks it'll only heighten who he is as a player.
Bradyn Swinson and Jalen Lee are still finishing their spanish classes for the summer session which ends Monday. They've been working out in the afternoons after practice to get used to the heat and weather.
