I wanted to look back at Miles record over his tenure at LSU in order to understand exactly how good he has coached and why people still want him here. Now my view is biased of course but I will try and keep it to the stats. Over miles 10.7 years at LSU he has lost 26 SEC games or about 2.42 per season. Of those only once did Miles make it through the regular season undefeated in the SEC. Four of the years he lost three or more games with 08 being the worse at 5. Five of these years he lost 2 and one year just one game. Now when looking at the entire record, by any measure, it is a very good record. However when examining what matters, divisional and conference games, the record is roughly 70%. In any other league this would be respectable. However losing an average of 2.4 games per season in the SEC will get you to the secondary bowl circuit. Now let's take away his two best seasons in terms of record which is 2005 and 2011. The winning percentage is now 64%. Furthermore Miles post season record is 60% not including SEC championship games of which he is a respectable two out of three. My question is how does this support anyone's notion that we can't do better with someone else. That Les needs to stay or there aren't any other alternatives. The record stands. It's decent but not SEC great or Elite by any measure.
