Louisiana State University Agricultural and Mechanical College is a publicly funded institution of higher learning. A research University. It has several athletic programs that operate under National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). Unlike Vanderbilt University ( a private institution), who runs their athletics program through the PE physical education department, we have an athletics department. Joe Alleva is a Vice-Chancellor and Athletics Director and in charge of his department.

F. King Alexander is the President of the University. Also, he is Joe Alleva's boss. He tells Joe what to do, Joe don't tell him what to do. They are both employees of LSU and answer to the Board of Supervisors. The Board of Supervisors are appointed by the Governor of the state of Louisiana, who is elected by the people of the state of Louisiana. The Governor is in charge of the state and all of its political subdivisions. LSU is one of them.

The Tiger Athletic Foundation is a charitable organization that raises money in support of LSU athletics. They don't tell the Athletic Director, the President of the University, or the Governor what to do. They offer their donors a nice tax write off because of their charitable status.

So the hierarchy is as follows: Governor at the top, Board of Supervisors (serving at the whim of the Governor), President of the University, Athletic Director and far far far down the food chain some guy with a bunch of money he gave TAF. Class dismissed.
