At Lsu in some regards we have become the "Settlers".We settle for average to bad coaches in almost every sport. We also have a below average chancellor and athletic director(who has his hands tied) running the ship.
But rating each coach as I see them in the last 5 years.

Les Miles -average- still a very good recruiter, has made changes to his staff-but at the present he is below 3 other coaches in the west. Saban,Freeze, and Belema.
Paul Maineri- average - he is probably in Miles boat, maybe worse, but right now you have to have him definitely below The Fla coach, the aggie coach,The Vandy coach Corbinand possibly the Arkansas coach.Burt Maineri doesn't get a pass because he has the most resources of any coach (nicest stadium, history etc.)

Johnny Jones- below average, decent if not very good recruitor.Has no knowledge of how to fire a team up, work the officials, coach defense, and utilize the skills of his players.I still stick by my guns and say Simmons is overrated- but this team had plenty of good players at other positions, and Epps,Malone and the complimentory players aren't developing. If you want to watch how a real team plays, watch Villanova.

The Lady basketball coach gets a Blutarsky grade from Animal house.
So outside of Torina ,Dee dee breaux, and the golf coach-man it's hard to see who is getting it done at Lsu.
I think Miles could have a big year, but he sure is going to have to stay out of the way of progress.
