First, let me say Les Miles is a great person of high moral character and he seems to be a genuinely nice guy. His reaching out to Sid Ortis and many other kind acts is further proof of that. Having said this, I think he has reached his level of incompetence in being a Championship level coach at LSU. He's a mediocre to good coach but not elite.
He's in his 11th year and the undisciplined organization of his program is on full display this year and quite frankly since 2012. Since the 2012 National Championship Game things have been on a slow decline to mediocrity. When you look at how we recruit, the facilities and support, he and his assistants salaries, and the fan base there's no excuse for playing the way we have played.
He has changed assistants multiple times in his tenure but the overall level of execution has been on a steady decline since 2012; especially as it relates to passing offense. He and the staff's inability to develop and coordinate a passing offense is consistently lacking. Currently, we are ranked 114th in the NCAA in passing offense and we have been on the last page since Mettenburger left. The offensive coordination is pathetic and predictable and it's why lower ranked defenses like Arkansas look dominant against us. Secondly, it wastes the elite talent we have recruited and it has to frustrate the players. We have highly ranked players who get to LSU and the development and coordination is just not happening. The lack of passing offense hurts the defense because they can't possess the ball enough to give them a rest and we start giving up big plays. No need to discuss Special Teams...penalties (which has been a chronic problem since Les has been here).
So, we're here at the back end of another year with no shot at a Championship and having to watch Ala fricking Bama win the West, probably the SEC and make the Playoff with another QB who has been coached up and developed and we will be in a lower tier bowl. I don't like it and I have no confidence that our coach can get us to that level again.
Where do we go, what does our AD do with contract's, and what does our fan base expect? I expect more and we shouldn't be trapped by the ole "Well who could we get that's better" scenario. We are paying big money for an inferior product and it's embarrassing.
