Yeah, Les, this one is on you. Whatever you are selling in the one-game-at-a-time and they-all-count-as-one-game department isn't working. If you want to say it wasn't a hangover then, your and your staff did an awful job of preparing for a home game and week after a poor effort with two weeks to prepare for a difficult road game to a place you've been before. Last week should have been easy to flush since the game was over in the third quarter and the players likely knew it. Among some of the ridiculous things Miles said after the game are these jewels: "Except for three plays, they (LSU defense) played their butts off." Right, except for three plays, so did Mississppi State when it played LSU. "It's easy to get fixed (kickoff coverage). That will be an easy one, it's not an issue." It is an issue, special teams has been an issue all season. It springs at least one new, costly leak every week. "We're close on (defense). We're close on special teams. We're a ways away on offense." The season is only two weeks longer, not counting the bowl game.
The sad fact is seemingly overnight, LSU's team overall has regressed and that lies squarely with the coaches. Defensively, the Tigers take more gambles but they seem far more often out of position under Kevin Steele's scheme. I remember defensive backs making a lot more plays last year, breaking up passes LSU has great talent at the skill positions but someone has kidnapped the offensive line and replaced it with less talented clones. When the offensive line and the quarterback are playing poorly, there's not much the running backs and receivers can do. Brandon Harris has been taking baby steps all season. When is he every going to be ready?
