Yes, LSU has recruited a roster full of Rivals100, Rivals250 and many four-star prospects every year. When you look at the difference between Alabama and LSU you're seeing a difference in linemen. In this post, my observation of the Bama defensive line against LSU's offensive line (which has improved and will have many in the NFL soon).
This summer at the July LSU camp it was a Who's Who of defensive linemen. The best of the best was there many of them are guys that anyone in the nation would take. In that group was Ed Alexander, Rashard Lawrence (didnt participate but was there), Tyler Shelvin, Ross Blacklock, etc. All of these guys have stature but then there was a beast in Alabama commitment Raekwon Davis at 6-foot-7, 305 pounds.
A group full of Hulk Hogan's in line to run through Ed Orgeron's drills and then there's Davis who was Andre the Giant of the lot. Sure, Davis might not have been as quick, or fast through the drills as some others but when he was in line, all the other guys disappeared behind him.
Alabama loads up on guys like him who eat up space and rotate more and more of them, then they have a continual run of big linebackers headed for the NFL behind them.
This is an example as to what i see as part of the difference right now.
Note: Yes, i used a WWF analogy even though pro wrestling was never my cup of tea.
