In the last 20 years we've signed 16 defensive lineman ranked by Rivals as either a 5* or a 6.0 4* (which basically means someone else had them as a 5*). This is the list:
04
Claude Wroten*, DT
Glenn Dorsey, DT
05
Al Jones, DE
Ricky Jean Francois, DE
06
Al Woods*, DT
07
Joseph Barksdale, DT
Sidell Corley, DE
09
Chris Davenport*, DT
10
J.R. Ferguson, DE
11
Anthony Johnson*, DT
13
Frank Herron*, DE
14
Travonte Valentine, DT
16
Glen Logan, DE
17
Tyler Shelvin*, DT
21
Maason Smith*, DT
22
Quency Wiggins*, DE
To be honest, our entire list of 5*'s is pretty depressing with only the odd glimmer or spark here and there... and now you're going to have to pay through the nose just to see if they fail to make an impact, which - based on history - they probably will. I say use that money to bargain shop for those 4*'s you have faith in and the rest of it on proven commodities in the transfer portal. I'm done with 5*'s prima donnas, let them be someone else's problem.
If they're in-state, ok sure, give them a look, but quit breaking the bank on chasing them all over the country. History shows they ain't worth it.
