The Tigers look to bounce back after a sobering defeat to Mississippi State in the season opener. Vanderbilt appears to be outmatched on paper, but the Tigers will find themselves in trouble on the road if the defense doesn't tighten up.
Things I want to see:
The Tigers seldom held backs and/or tight ends in for pass protection, but last week was a bit different, with the majority of passing plays calling for extra protection. I would like to see them get 5 players in routes more often this week.
I would like to see a decisive Myles Brennan taking the easy throws that defenses will give this offense. They were there last week, but I felt like his eyes took him downfield and led to him missing the available throws underneath.
I would like to see Arik Gilbert move around more. They kept him tight to the formation most of last week, but he is a matchup problem all over the field. It is likely due to him getting acclimated to the playbook.
DBU!
What I expect to see:
I expect to see more backs and tight ends staying in to protect until the staff build confidence in both the o-line and Brennan's ability to get rid of the ball quickly.
I expect Brennan to look better on drives, but I also expect it to look a little off on others, similar to last week. It will take him a little while to find his stride. The issues I saw last week usually get worked out over time. Timing, pre-snap reads, quick post snap reads and throws, better pocket presence and blitz recognition are all things that take experience and time. While I expect it to look better this week, I do not expect it to resemble a potent, consistent offense quite yet.
I do expect LSU to target Gilbert frequently and to spread him around the formation more to get the matchups they desire.
I am not sure what to think about this secondary yet, so I don't know what to expect.
