Randy Zeigler, a pitcher on LSU's 2009 national championship team, is headed back to the mound -- leaving his Bossier Parish sheriff's deputy job on Friday to take a shot a professional baseball.
Zeigler, 26, who landed at the University of Louisiana at Monroe after leaving LSU, will join the Lincoln, Neb., Saltdogs, a farm team for the Chicago White Sox.
Zeigler, who has served 10 months as a corrections officer, thought his pitching days were behind him, he said in a video posted by the Sheriff's Office.
But that was before a White Sox talent scout caught wind of the lefthander's 91-mile-per-hour fastball. A tryout followed, and Zeigler found himself trading in his badge for a baseball.
