Boy, am I glad we hired a quality offensive coordinator. The numbers don't lie. 200/200 Passing/Rushing, Annually. Matt Canada is the real deal. We have something to celebrate.
On the recruiting side, Isaiah Bugg, Christopher Allen and Dylan Moses decisions to leave the
state bring up questions. Time will tell if, how and when this outmigration of super talent
will cease. Certainly, Orgeron has just been named the new LSU Football Boss and he needs
time to work his magic.
One question to ponder is what can be done, beyond the umbrella of the LSU football operations
to help seal Louisiana football borders. The lure of being drafted in the first round, the possibility of winning an NCAA National Football Championship, the chance to be well coached by a position coach, the opportunity to play for a famous coach, at a storied program, and the prospect of getting a good education is attractive to any kid from any state.
10 of the top Rivals 84 football players are committed to Ohio State. Of the 10 players, 2 are from
Texas, 1 from California, 2 from Ohio, 2 from Nevada, 2 from Florida and 1 from Maryland. How
can anyone, perennially, compete with this type of talent draw that will be well coached? What is
Ohio State doing to attract such quality players from across the country, when their coach sees so
many talented recruits he can afford not to remember the name of one of his prized recruits that
, recently decommitted, because of this honest coach recruiting error?
Why is it that LSU lost their head coach, hired a temporary Head Coach that became the
head coach and, nearly, all of the recruits stayed committed?
I believe the answer is "Branding", "Coaching", winning, and athletic support from the university, the state, the university Alumni, university counselors, the university supporters. Marketing and networking are keys to enhancing a brand. Having a winning Football program is a huge marketing boost for any university. Look no further than Oregon Ducks for an example of the Phil Knight/Nike
marketing impact. The Opening draw top talent to Oregon, which is in "no man" football land
for most American HS Football players, across the country. The cool uniforms, the facilities, and the support is hard to not consider, once you have visited Eugene, Oregon. But, who goes to Eugene,
Oregon? Correct! Nike loving big time high school football players is the answer! No football and
they never cross the threshold of the city, ever. What a great Oregon sales pitch!
Relationships matter in business. Perhaps Ohio States' coach give meaningful handshakes to
the high school coaches, while on recruiting trips, in Texas, Maryland, Florida, California and Ohio.
Maybe he continue to, successfully, sell a brand the makes his job easier. Maybe the supporters of
his university feel a part of something sacred, wanted and cherished and they become secondary
sellers of his and the university product, without being conscious of it and without ever being accused of doing something wrong to encourage the support of their beloved university.
It seems that the weight of the world can be on the shoulders of the coaches of the perennial football power programs. How could it be, if their university's marketing and brand attract the best high school football players in the land? Those coaches know this and their role is to be primarily the best athletic psychologist and disciplinarian, so that they maximize their university's return on their football investments, which gives them a chance to be in the championship hunt every year.
The good news is that LSU only needs to lock up its borders and get a hand full of regional out of state talent to have a chance to win a national championship, perennially. Glen Dorsey and Jacob Hester are Louisiana born Champions and we produce their type every year. Comb over the
Football rosters of the SEC and the Louisiana talent pool becomes much more clear.
Let's see what we, as a state, university and supporters can do, through support
marketing, and relationships to help keep all of the Louisiana football talent in the state Louisiana.

Geaux Tigers!
