Jay Johnson
- Thought it was a great night for the pitching staff. 8 guys held them to four runs.
- Thinks Micah Bucknam has better command from last season. He’s making more “pitchers pitches”
- Doesn’t think their success on the mound tonight will translate to this weekend.
- Brought Mac here for his experience and he’s been amazing for them recently. 3-3 today.
- Thought Tommy was productive last weekend with walks even though he didn’t hit well. Liked what he saw from him tonight.
- Says DJ knew he was in for one batter. He threw one pitch then came out, but liked that he executed that pitch.
- Says Cam Johnson has had a lot of improvement with his breaking ball.
- Wants all his outfielders to play all the outfield spots, but that’s not always realistic. However, Bingham can play everywhere and gives them a lot of flexibility.
- Felt good. Felt he was able to get after it and command his pitches.
- Trying out a sinker to give him some pitch diversity and help w his slider.
- Says the slider has always been his strength as a pitcher.
- Says when he came here last year, Dylan Crews hit his slider 400 feet and he realized he needed to work on it, and thinks it’s improved a lot.
- Says today was the first time he’s really thrown a sinker.
- Says pitching in the SEC is very different from Canada. They have maybe 4 guys they play a year who play D1 baseball.
- Says it’s much nicer playing at the Box than at Arizona. Their LF wall is 366 feet, so he gets more homers here.
- Says they’ve seen how well they can play, but have had bad moments. Need to find ways to play their best more consistently.
- Hayden has been a big part of his hitting development. He picks his brain all the time about power hitting.
- Says the fan base in the SEC is a bit more invested than in the PAC-12.
- Seeing Ethan Frey succeed hasn’t surprised him. He works really hard and grinds every day, so he’s happy to see him succeeding.
