Hope you all had a great weekend with family and/or friends. I’m back from my much-needed break with my family - we enjoyed all beauty Tennessee had to offer last week.
But, back to business.
LSU is scheduled to play Kansas State in the Texas Bowl on January 4.
The team was given a few days off around the holidays and will report back to campus on the 28th, hopefully rested and Covid free because the virus is spreading like wildfire right now with multiple bowls already being cancelled. Seems like every time I log onto Twitter there’s another game cancelled. Earlier this year we were told the entire team, or nearly the entire team (maybe one or two) were vaccinated but it’s unclear how many players have booster shots. The Tigers depart for Texas on Dec. 31 to prep for the bowl game.
Players that have opted out so far to prepare for NFL Draft: Neil Farrell Jr. and Damone Clark. I personally think we could see a few more, players that might be bubble draft guys or players still deciding if they’ll leave to go pro. That’s obviously nothing I’ve confirmed and just my opinion at this point but something I’ll be watching for.
This week we’ll also be watching for the news with Garrett Nussmeier and NCAA and if he’ll be granted a waiver to play in the bowl game AND keep his redshirt.
LSU players that have accepted invitations to the Senior Bowl: Farrell, Clark and Ed Ingram. The Reese's Senior Bowl will be on Feb. 5 in Mobile, Alabama.
LSU coach Brian Kelly will be in New Orleans Monday night to watch the New Orleans Saints take on the Miami Dolphins to support his former quarterback, Ian Book, who will get his first NFL start on Monday Night Football.
