Congratulations to coach O for landing his dream job at LSU. However; the LSU fan base seems to be divided on this hire. I personally wanted Fisher or Herman at first to be the next coach at LSU. The ball didn’t fall into LSU’s court and it was a miss with both Herman and Fisher. Fisher wanted a crazy contract lasting 10 years. IMO that is crazy, LSU would have been stuck with Fisher even if he failed at LSU. No coach is worth that crazy length of a contract with almost 7 million a year. Unless, they are a proven champion coach such as Saban and Belichick.
I was very interested in the potential of Herman becoming the next LSU HC. Something about Herman’s past track record of creating monster offences appealed to me. It was obvious that Herman could develop QB’s and other positons such as WR. Red flags started popping up with him in the last week before the hire. A leaked source came out about LSU interested in Herman. I have a feeling it was due to him basically threatening UT to hire me now or I’m going to LSU. I noticed the interview in his last game and he blatantly lied to a reporter saying he had no contact with any colleges. Then he supposedly tells LSU that a big appeal to coach LSU is being able to bring his OC Major Applewhite with him. Major Applewhite had issues with UT under the Mack Brown era. UT would never hire him as OC with Herman. Herman was also supposedly exited that LSU was going to give him full control of the program. He started becoming wishy washy at the last moment and Alleva supposedly slammed the door shut on him getting coach O. LSU might have just been saved on Herman not coming to LSU. Herman seems to be the type of coach always looking for the next bigger thing. He probably wouldn’t have stayed at LSU for too long. He would have always been looking west to UT or possibly looking towards the NFL if he had success at LSU. I can't trust a coach that one minute is pretending to protect his OC saying he wants him to go with him. Then bails to leave him fending for himself because UT called. That is a major character flaw and I'm grateful LSU stayed away from that. By no means is Major Applewhite a bust, he will land a great OC or HC gig some place. Who knows maybe OC for LSU?
Alleva hires coach O and the fan base suddenly becomes divided. Some are ecstatic on the hire and some think it’s the end of LSU. Granted coach O does not have a great track record at Ole Miss. Coach O even admitted he learned from his mistakes at Ole Miss and grew from them. Coach O used to interfere with his coordinators and now he lets them do their jobs. Coach O also has the potential to go 12-4 if he wins the bowl game combined with LSU and USC’s record. Many people think coach O may be just as good as Saban when it comes to recruiting. LSU might be reentering the age of when Saban flooded LSU with crazy talent. If coach O lands a Steller OC as the likes of Kiffin or other studs the sky could be the limit for LSU. If coach O can keep bringing in top 5 recruiting classes every year, the sky could be the limit for LSU. If coach O keeps or replaces coordinator positions with studs the sky could be the limit for LSU. I wouldn’t hit the panic button yet people. LSU just landed a coach who’s dream job is to coach LSU. You will never find a coach more motivated and that has more energy than coach O. Coach O will work his butt off and truly wants to bring LSU back to the championship level. He’s shown us in a short stint that he can fix clock management issues. He replaced the failed OC and promoted a TE coach to OC that uses the TE. LSU’s offense set records in three of the games they played with coach O at the helm. Yes, LSU scored a big 0 against Bama, but really? Many label this Bama defense one of Saban’s best ever. Give coach O a chance he may surprise us all. LSU could have hit the lottery on hiring a coach that will stay till he retires if coach O is successful. Worst case scenario coach O fails, but this time the contract won’t be a monster to buy out. And LSU wins out no matter what, because Coach O will leave this LSU team loaded with talent. And if I remember right Coach O put the bug in CLMs ear to hire Aranda. That shows me coach O can spot out the great coordinators.
