Beating any SEC team by 3 TDs is nothing to dismiss....S. Carolina had a lot too play for...Underdogs, and the emotions of repping their state given the situation....This team has shows us something different everygame but at this point a number of constants are emerging
Offense..
1. This team will go as our OL goes. Our OL is the key to our Offense and infact our entire season. They have been the most consistent and reliable unit thus far. I will had our TEs to this consistent group wrt to blocking. Lots of room to improve wrt to pass blocking, and I think they will after the by. They will face their stiffest test yet against UF this sat...
2. Our QB is fine. LSU wants to run a bunch of plays and go more Hurry up/shot gun with Harris. Harris at this point is not the lynchpin of the offense and hasn't gotten yet to the point where he can beat a team by himself or win the game if he has to at the end. However, He is very good. He is playing well enough to take us all the way.
3. LSU has big time RBs: Need say no more
4. Wrs are the weakest link in this offense: This group is most inconsistent. Strangely enough; our wr's are holding this offense back. LSU has a 40% pass 60% Run mix because of this very reason..What's a coach to do? Run the ball and get a gauranteed average of 6-8 yds a play or pass it and get 12 yds or nothing because either the ball gets dropped, they cant get separation or didnt run a good route? The hope is that...they will continue to build on their output this sat. Dural, and Dupre need to step up. LSU's best formations seems to be A. 2WRs, 1TE, QB, 1RB, 1 FB/TE B. 3WR, 1TE, QB, 1RB C. 2WR, 1TE, QB, 2RB. If the wr's become more consistent, and we have atleast one dominant one, we should be fine. Would like to see more of Quinn and Chark. This group, if they remain inconsistent will cost us a game or more...
Defense
LB's are the most reliable unit in this defence: Beckwith has been quiet, and effective but not dominant. Debo has being dominant. Alexander, Riley, etc have all played well. Solid Group
DL is solid against the run but front 4 not doing enough wrt to push rush...w this could be a combination of a drop in DB performance and playing a lot more people. We need Godchaux, Lacouture, Herron, Gilmore, Bower, Neal, Tuehema and Keys to do more in generating pressure.
DBs: This group have been flat out disappointing. This season, all we basically just missing mills, collins and Martin.....KT2, who is replacing Collins is not playing at Collins' level but has been ok... White has been solid. For me the problem is with the safeties. There is definately a drop off rom last year( Right now, Mills and Martin were much better). Jefferson and Adams havent played will against the pass, and Adams looks undisciplined and a glory seeker back there, which is leading to plenty of breakdowns. Maybe Mills' return should stabilize this unit but Mr. Raymond better get his charges in order cuz the DBU battle is up next
Special Teams: This has been a mess outside of kicking PATs. We can't seem to cover, punt or kickoff. Big time drop-off from Coach who left for the NFL. This is going to really hurt us in some big games. We cant be giving away Field position at the opponents 35 to 40 yard line. As for the Aussie, is too damn old to be this
So after 6 weeks, If LSU is a good team with some great players but still a work in progress ( assuming progress can be made)...
Whether we make the play-offs or not will comes down to the play of the Wr's, Safeties and special teams
FL: Very similar teams but they may have the better DBs, and Special Teams. Lbs and DL are even. We have the better RBs...Everything else looks even. Our Wrs better bring their game else they are fixing to get embarrased in tiger stadium.
Bama: We spread them out and hurry we win....Our safeties better get their mind right ..If we do, we should be fine...if not..big plays for them and they win...
Olemiss: Spread them out and run the ball using Qbs and Rbs
Arkansas: WRs must step up with big plays...We best arky if we score consistently. They arent built to shoot-out
A&M: The Chavis Bowl.... Another big game for our Safeties....
I'm still sticking to 10-2. with losses to FL and olemiss/A&M
