Just got off the phone with him to kind of compliment the Chad Simmons story.
I think he may be my favorite player in the 2022 class.
Is it real yet?
“It still doesn’t feel real yet.”
When did you let the coaches at LSU know? Did you let them know before today?
“No sir. I let them know around 1:30 p.m. today. I talked with Coach Orgeron, Cregg and Bowen. When I told them, for the first 30 seconds I didn’t understand a word that was said because Coach Orgeron was just screaming into the phone. We got a kick out of it. They seemed just as excited as I am.”
Why now?
“For the past 2-3 months, I have just been thinking about it. I don’t think that I am going to find a better place than LSU. Once I got that into my head, there isn’t a reason to wait.”
What made LSU the right spot?
“First of all, the amount of effort the coaches made to have a good relationship with me. The culture, environment and atmosphere that LSU has. That is what I’m all about.”
What did your family say when you told them your decision?
“My mom and dad were just as excited as I am. It’s the closest SEC program. It’s 2.5 hours away. It’s a jump and skip away from our house. It’s really close and there isn’t another game atmosphere like it. I know they are going to have just as much fun at the games as I will. We are all happy.”
How much of a pressure reliever is this (making the decision)?
“That is one of the reasons I decided to make a decision so early. Me personally, I am not that type of football player that looks for that type of attention; he’s getting recruited by this and he has so many offers and the like. At the end of the day only one offers matters because you are only going to go to one school. I don’t get caught up in the social media stuff; I’m here to play football and I want to focus on my high school football team right now. I have two years before I go to college.”
How firm is this commitment?
“(my recruiting process) is one million percent over. That’s something that I told Coach O, the whole coaching staff and also my high school head coach. I am a firm believer that the world commit means your committed. If I’m committed, the only visits I’ll be taking are to Death Valley in Baton Rouge and that’s it.”
