10th out of 14 teams. Vanderbilt averaged 10.75 over the same span.
I was at the LSU/Texas A&M game and I watched it again last night. Our offense at times is unwatchable. Brandon Harris completed 7 passes for the whole game which is 5.27 completions less than his horrific average of 12.27 completions a game. If you take out the Arkansas and Ole Miss games where we were getting blown out and he was forced to throw the ball, he is averaging 9.8 completions a game. That is less than 2.5 completions a quarter! All of this from the #2 ranked dual threat quarterback in the nation. The kid has talent but he is not being coached up. When was the last time you saw a designed quarterback draw? It has never been called. Awful!
Like it or not, CLM is in the results industry. Yes he is great man. Yes he is great recruiter. Yes he graduates his kids. But he will NEVER EVER consistently beat good teams with his 1970's offense. If we can road grade a team with the run, we win, but if we can't physically dominate the line of scrimmage, like against Bama, we lose.
I like CLM but I love LSU. If he sticks with Cam this year, we will have a new coach in 2017.
Hire Tony Franklin and be done with it. He coached at Auburn (SEC) and he coached in Louisiana. As the OC at CAL this year, his team averaged 369 yards passing a game (5th in the nation out of 128 teams). LSU averaged 173 passing yards a game (111th in nation out of 128 teams).
Next year predictions with and without Cam.
With Cam, 8 and 4. Losses to Auburn, Florida, Arkansas, & A&M. Les is fired!
Without Cam and a true spread offense 11 and 1. Lose to Florida, win the West, Beat UF in the rematch in the SEC Championship game, & in the playoffs. Fournette wins the Heisman and Les is coach of the year!
I know the one common thread over the past 8 years is CLM. He was WARNED this year when he was nearly fired. He needs to let a new OC radically change the offense strategy.
(Yes, I believe we will finally beat BAMA at home next year but with CAM it could be our 5th loss.)
