Paul Mainieri's comments: "The most important thing for us to do right now is to teach our young guys how to win. We're making progress in getting that accomplished. There's a lot of competition for positions right now. If guys want to play, they have to play better than the other guys on the team. It's not February 19 yet for our opener against Cincinnati. We still have a lot of teaching to do. Both starting pitchers (Godfrey and Smith) threw well. There were some very good at-bats against them. Everybody has their moments in intrasquad games, but the bottom line is that guys have to learn what it takes to win at this level."
