praising the hire and criticisms of the hiring. I thought, perhaps assumed, that the administration would cast a wide net hiring an agent to obtain the names of interested coaches who would be vetted by a search committee. I also thought money was no real obstacle to any hire.
Then we have learned that the AD approach the hiring with but two names, Herman and the O. It occurs to me that a true search would have been a better approach, both for the fans and O who seemed to have gotten the job by default. When Saban was hired he had a record of 34-24-1 which was only 2 more than DiNardo in the same amount of time. He never had a winning season at Vandy. Archer had no history as a head coach while Hallman had Brett Farve. A coaching record is not a good reason for any hire because the record depends on the circumstances(IMO)..
Like all of us, I wish the O the best. I only wish the search committee would have done a larger search. The O could then believe he was the best hire of all those interviewed.
