LSU has certainly been plagued by a number of ST mistakes in 2015 . More than usual. Calls have gone out to replace the ST coach.There is no denying that ST play has been bad at times .
But consider this for a moment. When an OL whiffs on his block or blocks the wrong man the runner is often stopped for no gain and the outcome of the game is usually not impacted greatly. .few fans call for the firing of the OL coach when this happens 2-3 times. Or a LB misses a tackle and the RB gains an extra 3 yards. Rarely after 2-3 of these is the LB coaches head called for.
However when the ST player whiffs or blows his assignment the impact on the outcome of the game is huge . A punt gets blocked, a FG is missed . There are so many moving parts on a single ST play that can go wrong and when it happens the whole world sees it clearly.
This isn't meant as an exoneration of the ST coach or the players but simply to note that mistakes are magnified compared to other aspects of play .
