I have thoroughly enjoyed this season and having the ability to watch every game has certainly piqued my interest in the program. I've made no bones about my expectations for LSU baseball in previous discussions and I stand by them. But, watching this season unfold got me to thinking.
Let's say, LSU wins another couple of games at South Carolina and ends the SEC season as champions of the league. Alternatively, they go on to win the Southeastern Conference tournament in Hoover. But, I am only considering that they win one or the other and not both.
They will be both a regional and super regional host. They will likely be the number 1 overall seed or close to it.
If they get beat in the regional or super regional, I think most everyone would be gravely disappointed and not be willing to call this a championship season. So, does that mean that we no longer consider SEC championships in baseball to be worth anything?
If they get to Omaha, but get swept away. Successful campaign just fell short of expectations?
If they win a couple of games in Omaha but don't bring home the prize. Satisfied?
If they get to the final four but don't bring home the prize, Kentucky like feelings of disappointment?
At this point in the season, having been able to closely watch this team every weekend, I have to say, I am feeling good about LSU's place in the college baseball world. It is still one of the most revered programs in the country, despite its shortcomings the last couple of years.
