My new cfp tinfoil-hat arrived via prime delivery this evening. Along with the hat came a top-secret memo from the CFP, here's what it said:
"Dear AckmanLSU, no need for you to worry about your beloved LSU Tigers undeservedly falling to #2 in the rankings. It is not an intentional slight against the Bayou Bengals nor an indication of where we believe your team should truly be ranked. In fact, the committee unanimously agrees that LSU is the best football team in college this year. However, CFP Selection Committee members and football fans across the country have Bama vs Clemson fatigue and LSU vs Bama fatigue. None of the committee members nor any of the football fans want to see these matchups in the CFP semifinals. Consequently LSU cannot be the #1 team at this time. If Utah or Oklahoma becomes #4 and all favored teams win out then LSU has a chance to jump Ohio State for #1 in the final cfp rankings. Should Bama reach #4 in the final cfp rankings, LSU has no chance at #1 as long as Ohio State also remains undefeated. Committee members call it ranking by design. The committee wants #1 Ohio State vs #4 Alabama and #2 LSU vs #3 Clemson... and we honestly don't give a rat's behind whether you like it or not!"
