LSU is practicing for its Australian tour. The team leaves next Tuesday. The Tigers will play five games in Australia from Aug. 15 through Aug. 22. Members of the media were able to watch about 30 minutes of practice Tuesday. Here are some notes.
10 scholarship players at practice. Craig Victor is ineligible. Brian Bridgewater has a leg injury. It is doubtful that Bridgewater will be able to play in Australia. Both Victor and Bridgewater will make the trip.
No. 1 unit
Center: Darcy Malone
Power forward: Ben Simmons
Small forward: Keith Hornsby
Shooting guard: Antonio Blakeney
Point guard: Tim Quarterman
No. 2 unit
Center: Elbert Robinson
Power forward: Aaron Epps
Small forward: Brandon Sampson
Shooting guard: Jalyn Patterson
Point guard: Josh Gray
Simmons looks like Magic Johnson as a freshman at Michigan State. He can handle the pass and he is a great passer. He can defend at any position on the floor. He is not a very good outside shooter.
Quarterman looked very good. He continues to make progress. Blakeney appears to be a little weak in his upper body. He is a very good shooter. Of the second-team players, Sampson was the most impressive. Malone displayed more confidence than the other backup post players.
