Let me start that I was at the PMAC today. It was a great atmosphere and incredible game. OU is awesome and I do not have have enough superlatives for Buddy Hield. Every one of his makes hit the bottom of the net. 7-9 from threes in the last 16 minutes of the game...all you can do is shake your head.
Let me get to the point of the topic of the thread. I feel that JJ struggles with TOs and in game coaching. Today's examples...
1. First half...Tigers make a 3 and go up by 13 points. Quartermann leading the celebrations coming up the court while OU quickly comes up the court and buries a three. 4:46 left in the first half. I thought it was the perfect opportunity to call a TO and chastise your team about playing defense and not celebrating. As you may know, you have to use one of your TOs in the first half or lose it. If I remember correctly and to JJ's credit, I believe JJ called a TO at the end of the half and called a play for Epps who buried a 3.
2. Second half...JJ calls a TO with 7:56 left in the half. Shot clock has 19 seconds left. If you are going to call a TO here, why not call it with more than 8 minutes left. You would be able to utilize the TO to rest your players and still take advantage of the 8 minute TV TO at the next dead ball. Plus, it may have helped to kill the rally that OU was having.
I could go on, but wanted to see your opinions on these examples.
