-- Orgeron reiterates that he thought his players played hard. Says that the coaches need to put them in better position and that they have to execute better, but "want to" was there.

-- "There's no question" #LSU needs to be more diverse, says coach Ed Orgeron. "There's a lot of things we could have eliminated as coaches, and we didn't do it."

-- Orgeron reminds everyone that LSU has "won a lot of games with Austin Deculus and Ed Ingram... won a national championship." Says losing Dare Rosenthal before the season hurt... but no excuses. Has confidence in Brad Davis & company. Just taking time to gel.

-- How much did the Hurricane Ida impact & evacuation affect game play Saturday? Ed Orgeron says: "I would like to think 0. Now, I don't know if it did or not. We were lucky, like I said the administration allowed us to go to Houston. We were in a little cocoon out there."

-- Orgeron says the coaches had an extensive meeting this week to identify the specific issues the defense had covering crossing routes and coming up with drills to use this week to improve that area.

-- Orgeron thanks reporter for opportunity to talk about his son. Shares some background & how proud he is of Cody. "Playing against Cody's gonna be pretty cool. He's gonna be talking some smack. I know he'll come to the sideline and talk some smack. He knows all our players."

-- Orgeron explains again that Max Johnson has the freedom to scramble when necessary, but that the Tigers aren't going to run a lot of straight QB runs — QB power, etc. Says probably do need to implement a few more zone reads, though, which could see Max end up running more.

-- Orgeron says he'll coach this weekend the way he knows how to coach, but may have to "tone down" a couple of his words about getting after the quarterback knowing it's son Cody.

-- Orgeron references the first half run Northwestern State gave LSU a couple years ago as an example of why the Tigers can't/won't overlook McNeese State this weekend.

-- Orgeron asked about Brian Thomas Jr. and Jack Bech. "Excellent. Excellent." Says all the young receivers have been great. Need to see more of them.

-- Orgeron confirms that Jared Small is out for the year. Still waiting to see what the status/timeline is for Jay Ward.

-- Orgeron says this was Max Johnson's first instance of truly being THE guy & that LSU will give him time to settle into that. "He was really good at times. At times he's gotta get better." And "he got hit too much," which did him no favors & probably played into some jitters.

-- Orgeron says he hopes to play freshman QB Garrett Nussmeier some this week.

-- Orgeron asked at what point in the week he'll have to cut off communication with son Cody Orgeron. "Never... That's my son."

-- Orgeron asked at what point in the week he'll have to cut off communication with son Cody Orgeron. "Never... That's my son."

-- Orgeron says Koy Moore is good-to-go despite nagging injury that slowed him down some in camp that that Tigers "need to find him" more. Also adds that he wants to see his team get the ball to Kayshon Boutte more earlier.

-- Orgeron: "(UCLA) gave us some challenging stuff. Tackle-over stuff, end-over stuff. Almost every down was a slide the front, adjust the back end. And they were going fast. So it was a challenging offense. We knew that going into it. I wish I would've prepared the team better."

-- Orgeron: "I wish I would've prepared the team better. Now that I know what he was doing, I think I could've shown the team more of that. So that falls on me. But all the things we saw on tape — we spent 8 hours on the tape on Sunday — are fixable. Every one of 'em can be fixed."
