Brad Scott was the FSU OC prior to Mark Richt, and was the author of some spectacular offenses there in the early 90s. He was THE hot name in coaching circles, and so South Carolina hired him as HC. He went on to not only NOT produce those same offenses, but also failed as a HC, and was soon fired. The memorable quote back then was, Funny how the FSU offense works better with FSU players.
Chavis will quickly find out the same lesson at TAMU. He benefited GREATLY from our insane secondary talent, as his scheme very much relies on blanket coverage by corners and an effective pass rush generated only by the defensive front 4. Absent these qualities, his defense will struggle mightily IMO. Heck, they even just moved a stud RB, Brandon Williams, to corner, they are so bereft of SEC caliber talent there.
Throw in the fact his D there will ALWAYS be on the field an enormous amount of time, due to Sumlin's quick strike, lack of ball control offense, and things could very well get ugly there quickly.
He's going to miss that elite Volunteer and Tiger talent more than he ever realized.
