I guess I will show my age but I recall living in South Louisiana and having the opportunity 45 years ago to go to the Sugar Bowl and man it was like the best gift a kid or family could dream for. Seeing some great games and players through the years. Favorite was watching Herschel Walker and Georgia man that was a great one.
Fast forward to 2017 way to many bowls with absolutely no significance at all with the exception of networks and NCAA making $$$. With the exception of the 4 playoff teams the players that expect to enter the NFL draft they are ready to move on after the last regular season game with beginning their training for the combine, hiring an agent, preparing for Senior Bowl type show cases, etc. College players with expecting a good draft round are simply not ready to risk injury and get a head start to the NFL. Meanwhile the NCAA want the bowl $$$. Something is going to give.
Just heard Rosen the QB at UCLA saying college players "are realizing they have rights". You can see the change happening. Astronomical coaches salaries with no end in sight, NCAA making gobs of $$$, players with $5 dollars in their pockets and living like peasants for 3-4 years in college and high percentage of them could care less about an education. I could only imagine where this is going the next 40 years.
