The college schedule does not allow for a lot of time between the national championship game and the declaration deadline for the NFL Draft, which is Friday.
LSU has a lot of key players looking at their current situations and some will undoubtedly turn the page and declare for the NFL, but the Tigers should not suffer from post-stardom depression, with a talented young roster being groomed to take the reigns.
Here's what we are hearing with only days left before decisions will be finalized. Warning, this likely won't be regarded as a ton of positive news.
Grant Delpit:
Delpit is expected to declare and appears to have everything arranged to begin combine training next week, according to sources. Delpit appears to be heading to IMG for training, according to a source. He will likely be joined by others from the LSU team at the IMG Academy.
Justin Jefferson:
Jefferson's days in Baton Rouge are pretty much over, with him already making similar arrangements, according to sources. The feeling is that he hit his ceiling at LSU, with teams starting to consider him a fringe first-round pick.
Lloyd Cushenberry:
It sounds like there is a good chance Cushenberry returns, but it does not sound like it is a definite thing as of now. He is far more likely to return than guys like Jefferson Delpit, but it still worth monitoring in the coming days.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire:
Clyde Edwards-Helaire may have reached his ceiling at LSU in regards to his draft stock, which is why many in the building have been thinking that he will go pro. He certainly didn't do anything to hurt himself on Monday. In fact, he only cemented his status as a premier back, so the general thought is that he is leaning towards leaving. But everyone also knows that Clyde loves his time as a LSU football player, so there is some hope that his heart will keep him home for one more year.
Thaddeus Moss:
The early returns have us monitoring for a possible departure, but we are awaiting more info. We will update this section shortly.
Glen Logan:
We are being told Logan may return, but he has been eyeing an early departure for some time, so this is one we continue to monitor. As of now it appears that he may return, but he is still one to monitor a bit.
Neil Farrell:
Farrell is in line for a much bigger role next fall and he knows it. He has been a little bit disgruntled by the rotation at times, but he knows his time is coming, and is strongly leaning towards returning, according to a source. We expect Farrell to return at this point.
Patrick Queen:
Queen was considering entering the draft prior to last night's outstanding performance, so I imagine that is impacting things quite a bit. Sources believe that he is definitely leaning towards moving on the to next level, which could leave a big void at the middle linebacker position.
Jacob Phillips:
Justin Phillips led the team in tackles, but sources believe he is slotted behind Queen on a lot of draft boards and is more Phillips likely to return out of the two. We are hoping to gather more information on Phillips shortly, but he appears to be on the fence from what we can gather.
K'Lavon Chaisson:
Chaisson appears to be all but gone at this point, according to multiple sources. Like some of the other guys on the list, we were able to confirm that arrangements are being made for Chaisson to begin combine training in the coming days.
Kary Vincent:
In a bit of a shocker, multiple sources have indicated that Kary Vincent is strongly considering forfeiting his senior season and entering the NFL Draft. It wasn't enough to feel definitive that he is leaving, but it definitely feels like he is leaning in that direction.
Jacoby Stevens:
Sources are informing us that Jacoby Stevens is a strong lean towards the NFL Draft, with the belief that he will be a mid round pick as a hybrid safety/linebacker, which is becoming a common position in today's NFL game.
Saahdiq Charles:
It sounds like Saahdiq Charles will be joining a slew of other underclassmen that will be going through the process of declaring for the league. Charles had his eyes set on a 3-year college career since the end of his freshman campaign. It is highly likely that Charles declares in the next 48 hours.
Tyler Shelvin:
It sounds like Shelvin will throw his name in the NFL hat as well. Sources indicate that Shelvin is strongly considering moving on to the NFL after a standout season.
