VOICE OF THE TIGERS JIM HAWTHORNE TO MISS ALABAMA GAME

BATON ROUGE – The Voice of the Tigers Jim Hawthorne will miss the first LSU football game of his broadcasting career on Saturday when fourth-ranked LSU faces seventh-ranked Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Hawthorne underwent a successful medical procedure late last week and is still recovering. Hawthorne is expected to return to the booth in a couple of weeks.

Patrick Wright, a longtime member of the LSU Sports Radio Network, will handle play-by-play duties in Hawthorne’s absence. Gordy Rush, the sideline reporter for the LSU football broadcast, will fill in for Hawthorne at the Les Miles Radio Show on Wednesday night.

“I appreciate all of the wonderful thoughts, prayers and well-wishes from LSU fans,” Hawthorne said. “The show of support has been overwhelming. It’s truly humbling to have so many people call, email, and send text messages asking how I’m doing. I can’t respond to all of them, but they are very much appreciated.”

Hawthorne, the recipient of the 2015 Chris Schenkel Award for excellence in broadcasting, announced his retirement from LSU last spring. Hawthorne is set to retire following the 2015-16 basketball season.
