This recruitment is difficult to read with confidence coming from both sides. Before last weekend, I believe Texas would be the pick (and obviously still can be). But LSU, from what I can tell, made a surge during his multi-day visit in Baton Rouge prior to the dead period.
It's a little telling to me that Simmons announced his commitment date shortly after his trip to LSU and that he will be committing on the same day that his teammate and fellow top LSU target Caden Durham is set to announce. May not tell the entire story, but it's at least interesting to me, especially with, as I said, both sides feeling good before August 10.
Ultimately, right now, this race is too close to call. I have LSU and Texas in the same tier because I think it's that close and wouldn't be surprised with either program being the pick come next Thursday.
