For those of you who, like me, were excited about the Force Awakens but had some concerns that this new Star Wars franchise was going to rest on the laurels of the original trilogy rather than expand the core mythology, the teaser trailer for the new movie Rogue One should put that to rest. its a standalone prequel movie intended to tell the story of how the plans for the original 'Death Star' (and hence the means of its destruction) made it into rebel hands.
For those who don't know, the plan is to have a Star Wars movie that furthers the main story (like Force Awakens) in odd numbered years and in even numbered years a stand-alone movie which in some way expands the universe or fills in backstory for various characters (like maybe a Boba Fett movie or a young Han Solo movie showing his smuggling days)... meaning that the goal is a Star Wars movie every year.
