we've had 15 national title games won since the turn of the century. in that time, only one team has been ranked outside the top 50 nationally in rushing ('00 ou). conversely, eight teams (over half) were ranked outside the top 50 in passing and still won a title, with the worst passing teams (02 luckeyes and 09 bama) coming in ranked 92nd.
there's no doubt we need to be more efficient in the passing game, but i think the passing benchmark this team needs to hit is much closer to us than what many posters think it is. here's a break down of where the national title teams have ranked since the turn of the century.
