With the latest addition of Mason Taylor and decommitment of Jacoby Mathews, LSU currently sits at 15 prospects with the 16th more than likely coming from Emery Jones Friday night. Let's take a look at the current class and my July projections. Jimmy will be posting his Saturday morning.
COMMITMENTS:
Walker Howard, QB
Will Campbell, OL
TreVonte Citizen, RB
Jake Johnson, TE
Laterrance Welch, CB
Aaron Anderson, WR
AJ Johnson, WR
Demario Tolan, LB
Mason Taylor, TE
Jadarian Rhym, CB
Tygee Hill, DL
Fitzgerald West, OL/DL
Bo Bordelon, OL
Decoldest Crawford, WR
Nathan Dibert, K
PROJECTIONS:
Armani Winfield, WR
Shazz Preston, WR
Emery Jones, OL
Julian Armella, OL
Quency Wiggins, DL
J'Mond Tapp, DL
Harold Perkins, LB
Jacoby Mathews, S
Austin Ausberry, DB
Azareyeh Thomas, DB
Kendrick Law, ATH
We're now looking at a numbers game for LSU, like it always turns into this time of the year. With 15 commitments, 16 if you count Emery Jones, LSU will have to start to prioritize the commitments and targets they want and how many scholarships they may or may not want to save for the transfer portal.
Other guys I thought of potentially including but left off this time around: Denver Harris, Evan Stewart, Anthony Lucas, Malik Agbo
Here's a few notes on my projections:
- For starters, yes, I have more than 25 listed and I could have still put one or two more guys on the list quite honestly. I do believe we see some sort of deck shuffling this fall and don't anticipate all the guys sticking because it never works out that way. And then something else to keep in mind is that LSU always has the option of not having the kicker on a scholarship right away, which is not uncommon in college football, and would allow for an extra scholarship if they went that route.
- Jacoby Mathews literally decommitted minutes before I was posting all of this so clearly it caught a lot of people off guard. In my opinion, this is about wanting to take some visits with friends, starting with Texas A&M this weekend if I had to guess, as an uncommitted prospect, similar to what Derek Stingley did. That has not been confirmed because this all just transpired, but I believe it to be a pretty solid guess at this point. I do think LSU gets him back in the class eventually.
- Of the projection guys I went with this time around, I'm most confident or feel best about Emery Jones, Azareyeh Thomas, J'Mond Tapp, Austin Ausberry and Kendrick Law.
- The second LB on my list is Harold Perkins, but I want to say that pick is 50-50 with Texas A&M. Could go either way and many believe the Aggies lead for him. But Perkins has visited LSU several times this summer, including yesterday before he goes to A&M this weekend for a pool party. He is Blake Baker's No. 1 target remaining and has been made to feel like such. He spoke to Rivals recently about his finalists.
I'll answer any questions to the best of my ability in the comments section, so fire away!
