Anyone who has had concerns over Canada's offense needs to take into account a few things - mainly that we haven't seen it yet. Think about this:

1) Such a radical shift in offensive philosophy and scheme would come with a definite learning curve for the players involved - you certainly wouldn't expect to see it all come together in just the first few games.

2) The impact of the injuries and defections from the OL can't be overstated. Add to that the injuries to Guice and Williams and any OC would find himself considerably hampered. Players are starting to get healthy again and we're already seeing a significant revival.

3) It would make sense that the offense would get more effective the more of Canda's guys we get in there to implement it. That's not going to happen in the first half of the first season. For instance, one big aspect of Canada's offense is his using four wides at key times, something he has not yet felt comfortable doing with his current roster. Also, his preference for a more mobile QB to get 3-5 designed run plays a game isn't really an option this season.

4) Another huge aspect of Canada's offense is tempo. He loves to use tempo, but with the injuries, transfers, suspensions, etc. causing LSU's OL and DL to suffer significant depth issues in the first half of the season, he simply hasn't been able to take advantage of it. The smart play has been to shorten games rather than exhaust your personnel, and naturally that means no tempo.

I say all of this because we've all been heartened by what we saw against Ole Miss, but we also know that Ole Miss' defense is usually good for what ails you anyway, and next week we'll be squaring off on the road against the #1 total defense in the nation (and #2 scoring defense in the nation) which also just happens to be coming off of a bye week to get healthy, fresh and scheme against Canada and our personnel. It'll be easy to fall into the trap of throwing up our hands and once again savaging our team if things don't go well.

Remember, last year our offense was setting records once CEO took over, but we still got shut out at home by these guys. There's a reason for that, a reason why they are ranked as highly as they are. Stay the course. Canada is legit and will pay huge dividends for us for as long as we're lucky enough to have him.
