Welcome to The Situation Room
What is the Situation Room? For any first time readers of the series, The Situation Room, not unlike the one in the White House is an intelligence management room. A place where you can come get the latest inside scoop on LSU news and recruiting information.
It’s our version of a popular series across the Rivals network. A lot of sites that do these types of reports call them “War Room”.
With that said, lets gets right to it with a few quick recruiting notes on a couple of five-star visitors before passing the Mic to Kenny Van Doren.
Terry Bussey's Visit and Decision
A lot of the buzz on the recruiting trail right now in the LSU circles is all about Timpson (TX) five-star Terry Bussey. Can the Aggies hold on to him, or does LSU have a real chance at flipping him? LSU head coach Brian Kelly and staff just hosted the five-star athlete for another visit to Baton Rouge. I was told that Bussey's visit went well, the LSU staff still feels like they're in it, and all indications lead to LSU being right there with Texas A&M. Wouldn't rule out Georgia in this one, but they were a little late getting in the mix and it just doesn't feel like there's been as much buzz with Georgia as there has with the other two. Bussey has one final visit to College Station this weekend, so the Aggies get the curtain call. If I absolutely had to make a prediction on where he'd end up, I'd probably lean Texas A&M, but it certainly feels like LSU closed the gap, so I'm not quite ready to rule them out just yet.
Latest Buzz from the Recruiting Trail
Another five-star prospect LSU hosted this week was Zephyrhills (FL) five-star safety DJ Pickett. The 2025 standout ranks No.8 nationally in the Rivals.com rankings and is considered the No.1 safety for the class of 2025 and is the No.1 overall prospect in the state of Florida. He boasts impressive size and athleticism at the safety position, his 6-foot-4 frame, and athletic ability remind me a lot of former Notre Dame standout Kyle Hamilton as a prospect.
Hamilton went on to do big things at Notre Dame prior to getting selected by Baltimore in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Hearing a lot of positive chatter following Pickett's visit to Baton Rouge, the Tigers laid out the red carpet and Pickett received a lot of attention not only from the LSU coaching staff but several LSU players and commits alike.
I mentioned this in another thread but for anyone that might have missed it... When I was talking with recent offensive line commitment Devin Harper after his commitment, we got on the subject of who could be next for LSU. He was a little leery about making a prediction, but the name he put out there was DJ Pickett. I thought of all the names he could mention, that was an interesting one.
Again, all positive buzz following the trip to Baton Rouge, and I would go as far as saying that LSU could have moved into that pole position as the team to beat as it currently stands for Pickett.
