We have three gams left. Brian Kelly, his sterling staff and the players, have us with the real possibility of solid 1st season success. Folks, last spring the Buma Victory, was clearly a good possibility, in my feeble old mind. With the way football is, thought this was (at least) a 10 win Team. Maybe we would need a Bowl victory too.
What is funny? I was wrong. Not in the final outcome. But, my confidence was based on elements, that in most cases, did not go the way I thought.
First: Maason Smith. I saw him as the stud, that grounded this Team, with All American strength.
Next: our WR room. Well, they have contributed. But, their talent, has not been the major factor, it seemed they would be.'
A lot of people were in wait and see about our OLine. Rightly so. For me? I thought it would be a solid group. LOL. My starters? Frasier/Dellinger/Hill/Bradford/ Wire. I thought someone like Hill, Martinez or Shorts would take over the Center spot, maybe Dellinger. I like Xavier Hill, hope he sticks around. Thought Shorts would be the first man in, if not starting at one of any other position.. But, felt real good Coach Brad Davis had a solid group, to work with. Just turned out to be lead by guys, mostly, not in my wheelhouse.
TE thought Kole Taylor would be good enough. Well, a Taylor is a main weapon, lol! Thought the WR group would have such strong numbers, that TE would not be that important. LOL, should have known better under Kelly/Denbrock.
QB? Thought we would have someone step up. Did not matter to me who that was. My thoughts went to Brennan, then Nuss, then Daniels. I thought Howard was the most talented on the Team, still do. But, he was headed for a red shirt, most probably. I was not impressed with JDs arm. Mistook him for a one trick pony. Boy, he was unexpectedly, the cream of the crop. Did not see him leaping into the limelight and leading us, the incredible way he has.
Defense, was very confident they would be a strong point. Matt House has even exceeded my expectations. This guy is a great coach! Aranda's equal.
Oh yeah, lol, thought Special Teams would be a strength. It usually is under Coach Kelly.
Well, it goes to show: one never knows how things will work out.
We will get at least 10 victories, this season. It will take sustained effort from the players. This Team has fight. I still am confident, they will get to 10 wins. Anything can happen. We will have to fight to get there. We have, possibly, two very tough games left. Of course, UAB is capable too, if we don't play well. If we start off strong? They could be blowouts, though.
Brian Kelly is in charge now. His staff is top notch. The future looks very bright. We are on track for a 10 win season.
