LSU BASKETBALL LSU WBB vs Florida Post Game Presser Notes

Kim Mulkey
  • Felt they had really good perimeter defense today. Held Florida to four three's today on 23 attempts.
  • Said she loved her teams effort tonight, especially when they were up 40 points and still diving for 50/50 balls.
  • Feels the overall communication between her team was better. They still haven't played that many games together, so it's been a work in progress, but felt it was good tonight.
  • Said her and the rest of the staff told Poa they needed the Poa from last year and she used the bye week to build confidence. Said they got the Poa from last year today.
  • Thought that their defense helped lead to the 59-34 rebound margin. Said they forced a lot of bad shots which helped lead to some easy boards.
  • Liked what she saw from Angel in the playmaking aspect tonight. She led the team in assists with six.
  • Feels HVL and Morrow can bring a calming presence to this team in big moments since they've played a combined seven seasons in college.
  • Thought her bench was very productive today.
  • Said she's coached one other undersized post player like Aneesah Morrow before. She just throws bodies around and plays with so much effort.
  • Says Morrow got knocked down one time by a Florida player and Angel came down and gave her a little body check (nothing illegal) to let her know that isn't going to happen to her teammate.
  • The guards took a lot of heat the last couple games. Said they had a chance to prove them wrong today, and they did.
Mikaylah Williams and Haley Van Lith
  • Van Lith said she decided to be herself this game. Her teammates have been encouraging her to play more like herself, and she did, scoring her season-high 21 points.
  • Van Lith says they've wanted Poa to get into the game more often, so by putting her on the court with HVL allows HVL to move to SG and let Poa run the point.
  • HVL thinks she's been inconsistent this season. Says that's on her, she needs to bring it every game, so she's trying to take the next step and be consistent.
  • Both players said they came into this game with a ton of effort. They focused on defense and playing hard in practice this week, and you saw that with the way they attacked the glass and defended.
  • Williams thinks they have a lot of three level scorers and have a bunch of players who can knock down jump shots.
  • Williams said they see Poa scoring a lot in practice, but she usually doesn't do that in games. They were hype to see her score today.

LSU BASKETBALL LSU MBB vs Arkansas Post Game Presser Notes

Matt McMahon
  • Thrilled with their performance today. Said it was a true team effort for 40 minutes.
  • Felt it was "an unselfish, disciplined performance" on offense.
  • Thought Jalen Cook and Trae Hannibal at the point were terrific. Felt Cook was dialed in offensively coming off the bench.
  • Highlighted the 17 assists on 29 baskets. Says his team is playing a lot faster recently and their spacing has been better, so he feels when they can move the ball like they did tonight, they can be very dangerous offensively.
  • Also highlighted his team shooting 25 for 28 from the free throw line.
  • Called it a "coaches decision" to bench Jalen Cook. Said they needed a change. People get caught up in who starts and who doesn't, but he did what he felt helped his team win today.
  • Felt Hannibal played with great poise. He helped them get organized on the offensive side, had 4 assists and 0 turnovers. Also felt he played really well defensively.
  • Said the shot selection, ball movement and screening led to a lot of open three pointers.
  • Says all wins count the same, so he doesn't get hung up on it being their most complete win in SEC play.
  • Felt it was important that their stars didn't get in foul trouble early. That's been an issue for them recently, but it allowed his guys to get going early and often.
  • Hopes a game like today can lead to more confidence as they head into this tough stretch with Tennessee, Alabama and Kentucky on the horizon.
  • Calls Jalen Reed "blessed with talent." Loved what he saw from him on the defensive end of the court today.
Jalen Cook and Will Baker
  • Baker said his teammates did a good job finding him and helping him get in a rhythm early.
  • Cook said he wanted to come off the bench and create a spark for them. Thinks he did a good job of that.
  • Baker doesn't think his approach to this game was any different than normal, he just knocked down more shots and got hot early.
  • Cook thinks this offense can be really good if they're creating for each other like they were tonight. Said they've got a lot of three point shooters, so if they can create space, they can do damage from deep.
  • Baker thinks when you're hitting the three like they were tonight, it opens the offense more for everyone.
  • Feels their preparation coming into this game was really good. Want to keep the same mindset heading into this tough stretch they have.
  • Cook thinks Mike Williams is becoming better every game, especially as a shooter.
  • Baker felt it helped that he wasn't in foul trouble. Said it's taken him out of a lot of games, so he finally got a chance to get hot early.

OLYMPIC SPORTS 02/02 LSU Gymnastics Post Game Presser Notes

Jay Clark
  • Said this week was about getting better and getting back on track after the stumbled against Missouri last week. The main goal was to get a complete performance this week.
  • Doesn't want to get "intoxicated" by the scores, he's just happy the executed at a high level tonight.
  • Says Konnor McClain is getting comfortable now. Says she gets into a zone and he won't even talk to her so she can focus. Said he knew when he got her that she was special.
  • Says the decision to put Konnor at leadoff on floor was because Sierra Ballard had a bit of an ankle flare up, but they felt she has the right mindset to take over tonight and get it done.
  • He knew the early mistakes on beam weren't going to be consistent. They didn't overreact, and they just posted their season-high 49.625 on beam.
  • Said KJ wasn't feeling well because of a flu bug that hit the team, so he pulled her on floor for Livvy Dunne.
  • They were 22 shy of a sellout. Jokes and tells the fans they need to show up better.
  • Says Sierra Ballard is "owning" the leadoff position on beam. Said by the time they got to beam, the pressure was off because of the score, so she really settled them into beam.
  • Thinks they have a good balance on leadership. Haleigh and Kiya have grown a lot and set the leader, but also thinks Sierra, Aleah and Aloyna all contribute as leaders. Calls it "leadership by committee"
Haleigh Bryant and Konnor McClain
  • Said they pressed a little at Missouri and got a little tight. They focused on getting right this week and get back to the basics.
  • Says setting the record for highest team score in program history was amazing. Said they do it everyday in the gym, and they finally put it all together in a meet.
  • McClain says on floor, the team gives her the confidence she needs. She looks at them mid-routine and they give her a confidence boost.
  • They have a team mascot that McClain got in Utah. His names Strep and they treat him like a member of their team.
  • Says they feed off the crowd energy and they helped them tonight, but they need to be able to do the same on the road.
