LSU FOOTBALL Department of Education rules Title IX applies to payment of players

A memo was sent out regarding a new ruling for NIL and Title IX. The NCAA has said that they agree to allow power conferences to share up to 20.5 million dollars in payments to student athletes. Many schools had plans to distribute that money in different ways, with some schools admitting they planned on giving 75+ percent to football alone because it makes much more money than any other sport, but that won't be the case anymore. The Department of Education, which enforces Title IX, ruled that, if schools do not distribute the money equally between every student athlete, they could be in violation of Title IX. They said those payments should be considered athletic financial assistance, therefore it needs to be equal. The memo doesn't say anything about money raised through boosters, it's just the 20.5 million.

Truly unbelievable stats I just heard on ESPN re: Jayden Daniels

The perfect Quarterback Rating (QBR) is a 100.0 . An average QB in the NFL would rate about a 50.0 while a pro-bowl caliber player would have something in the range of 75.0. The top 3 QBR's in 2024 were Josh Allen (77.4), Lamar Jackson (77.3) and Joe Burrow (74.8).

Over the last six games, including the one last night - all must-win games for Washington - this is how Daniels has rated in clutch situations:

When his team was trailing: 87.0
During the 4th Quarter: 89.2
vs. the Blitz: 98.1
On 3rd and 4th down: 99.2

That's beyond insane for anyone. For a rookie? Forget about it. Plus, I don't even know how or even if that QBR stat addresses clutch runs or scrambles for a 1st down.

I keep telling people that Washington has had a lot of luck, winning so many close games, and they could just as easily have been 8-9 this season based on things Daniels had no control over whatsoever. They could easily take a step back next season, record-wise, and actually be improved as a team, that this is just a special run and one of those 'team of destiny' type seasons...

...but at the same time, Daniels' patience, intellect and calm demeanor (as well as the relentless preparation he apparently puts in during the week) put him in the perfect position to take advantage of that luck, to maximize any opportunity he's given, and if he's that good in the clutch when he's still learning the game, nothing says that he couldn't eventually be that good all the time, once he learns to access that talent on demand.

We knew the kid was great, but we might be looking at something truly special here. Let's hope he stays healthy.

In the off-season - draft and free agency - what do you think helps Daniels more - improving the offensive line, getting him a second elite receiver or going after a serious RB? Honestly, I look at what happened with Derrick Henry at Baltimore this year and I feel like a serious run game threat would be the thing Daniels needs to truly take over (and to keep him healthy), but Derrick Henry's don't exactly grow on trees. Word is there's interest in adding Tee Higgins as a free agent. Every mock draft I've seen has Washington going OL in the first round and then defense on rounds 2-4, so I guess we'll see.

LSU FOOTBALL Couple staff changes...

Brian Kelly let go of the Tigers' Director of Alumni Relations and High School Outreach, Nic Brossette. The former LSU RB was on the staff for three seasons and was unexpectedly let go yesterday. He was a big part of keeping recruits in the boot, so it'll be interesting to see who they bring in to replace him.

LSU's offensive analyst Paul Turner is accepting a job at Charolette as the team's WR coach and passing game coordinator. He joins Todd Fitch, who is Charolette's OC after being an Analyst for LSU in 2024.

LSU FOOTBALL Transportal numbers

BK and staff are loading the wagon as they continue adding more transfers

I’m not sure what to make of this

Does it mean that Kelly is a great recruiter and the NIL coffers are flush with lots of money to outbid even the big boys ?

Or
Does it mean that the roster was so devoid of talent going into year four that it was necessary to overhaul the roster to this degree

It almost feels like ….we have this championship QB ,this seat is getting hot it’s now or never
.LSU faithful, are getting restless . Oh and the team I left because winning a national title was impossible is on the verge of winning a national championship

The Philly fan! This is CLASSIC! Look at his company that fired him....

LIVE GAME THREAD LSU vs Baylor Live Game Thread

We're back for one more ride before the end of the 2024 season. The Tigers take on the Bears at 2:30pm CT on ESPN and should give up a pretty fun matchup.

LSU is missing a few key pieces today: Mason Taylor, Will Campbell, Emery Jones, Garrett Dellinger, Kyren Lacy and Major Burns have all opted out + Sage Ryan, Ka'Morreun Pimpton and others have entered the transfer portal. On the other side, Baylor is set to miss just one starter.

If there are any more pregame updates that come out, I'll make sure to drop them here.
