LSU FOOTBALL 4/15 LSU Spring Practice Notes

  • Colin Hurley was back at practice today, obviously with a red no-contact jersey. Participated in some individual drills and looked healthy. Still a long ways to go before he's 100% I'd imagine.
  • Sydir Mitchell was also back after sitting out the spring game. He injured his knee last Tuesday, practiced Thursday, but missed Saturday's event. Now he's back again.
  • Caden Durham missed practice again today. Sprained his ankle and wasn't available for the spring game. At risk of missing Thursday as well.
  • We know Zavion Thomas was taking some handoffs in the backfield, but Aaron Anderson got some work back there today, too. Joe Sloan will have a lot of options with Berry, Durham, Jackson, Anderson and Thomas.
  • Mansoor Delane had a couple wins in 1-on-1 drills today. I'd say he's all but locked into the CB1 spot, just got to find his counterpart now.
  • Nic Anderson has really come into his own lately. He's moved from third-team to second-team and has looked really good in drills. BK said he's still getting healthier from his injury last year, so he should only improve.
  • JD LaFleur and Brett Bordelon are still working off to the side with no pads. Shame to see. I wanted to see what LaFleur could do and Kelly called Brett one of the strongest OL in the 2025 class. We'll have to wait til the fall to find out what they got.
  • We've talked about West Weeks and Davhon Keys, but someone that's flying under the radar is Charles Ross. We don't get to see a lot of team work, so it's hard to tell exactly what he's got, but he's getting valuable reps and looks quick. Will likely be the top freshman LB in the fall since none of the others have arrived yet.

LSU FOOTBALL Brian Kelly 04/15 Media Availability Notes

  • Says everyone on the team is dealing with Kyren Lacy's death differently. They're leaning on their professional counseling department to help his players get through the situation.
  • Calls Kyren a bright star with an incredible personality. Will remember him as someone who loved LSU and was a great guy. "When you think of Kyren, you're gonna smile."
  • Wouldn't be surprised if the roster is exactly the same going into May. Thinks there's a good chance nobody leaves and nobody comes in. Loves where the roster is at right now.
  • Thinks Nic Anderson has really ramped up the last few practices. He's still getting healthier by the day.
  • Thought the spring game gave them a good evaluation of pretty much every position. Pointed out the defensive ends and said they clearly have a presence there.
  • Says the young guys have really picked up how to go about their day and compete at practice. Pointed out DJ Pickett and Solomon Thomas. Thinks they'll be so far ahead of the incoming summer freshmen in fall camp.
  • Colin Hurley was back today, and thought it was awesome to have him back. Says he looked great physically and he did some 1-on-1 work. Called it a blessing to get him back.
  • Says the summer is where you build accountability. Without being on the field with them, it's up to the guys to come in, put their head down and get to work in the weight room, etc. "The standards for winning a championship are sown in June and July."
  • Wants to see young guys like Harlem Berry add some more weight this summer as well.
  • Thinks they have five or six guys who could start at LG, C and RG. They just need to find out the best combination.
