RECRUITING Recap of Saturday's mega Elite Camp

Happy Father's Day, y'all. Been a busy weekend of LSU camps and CWS but here's a recap of the Saturday camp which hosted nearly 1,000 kids -- the biggest camp in LSU history, according to Frank Wilson.

-- Saturday's camp was an Elite Camp, meaning all position groups were participating except special teams. I bounced around to watch as much as possible but with 1,000 kids, it's impossible to see everyone.

-- Let's start with LSU commit Kolaj Cobbins, who worked out with the LBs outside a bit. He got one-on-one instruction from John Jancek off to the side then went inside to do 1-on-1s against the OL. Kolaj looked great! His game is tremendously better from a year ago today. He was only stopped on one rep and that was against West Monroe's Nate Green, a OL/TE prospect who has a few offers. Cobbins immediately asked for a second rep against Green and blew by him. I was impressed by Cobbins a few weeks ago when I saw him in Destrehan's spring game against Karr. Look for a big year from the four-star prospect.

-- Two other DL that stood out were 2024 Mississippi DE Caleb Moore, who was just at LSU in May for the spring game. He is really feeling the Tigers and it's only about 2-3 hours from where he lives in Mississippi. It sounds like he'll be ready to make a commitment relatively soon and the Tigers are in the mix against Mississippi State. I'll be lining up an interview with him soon to get more details. The other was Georgia 2026 DL Bryce Perry-Wright, who picked up an offer from LSU after his performance. To be fair, the only real OL competition these guys had to go against was Green and 2026 U-High prospect Lamar Brown, who returned to do OL drills after focusing on DL at last weekend's camp.

-- John Curtis receiver Michael Turner Jr. returned after the staff asked him to come do some specific drills for the coaches. They ended up putting through at least a solid 20-25 minute workout. Might have been longer. Rep after rep. Drill after drill. Brian Kelly, Cortez Hankton and Mike Denbrock were watching. He ran a 4.29 40 but it's a rolling 40, meaning it was truly 38-39 yards. I'm told that was equivalent to a low 4.4 or high 4.3 -- regardless, VERY FAST. Turner and his dad were then brought into BK's office by JR Belton and when he returned he had an offer in hand. I have interview coming from him. They know he's skinny only weighing about 155 pounds but he's impressed everywhere else and done everything they've asked of him. He's built like Devonta Smith. Similar frames. Turner wants to be at least 170-175 whenever he arrives to college for his freshman year. I've already put in a FutureCast in favor of the Tigers.

-- Official visitors JoJo Stone, CJ Jackson, Jayln Crawford and Ory Williams walked around camp for a bit with a staffer along with LSU commits Ahmad Breaux and Khayree Lee.

-- LSU has been knocking it out of the park with these OVs and 2025 QB Bryce Underwood. Sources told me things went as good as it could have and that Underwood and the family seemed to be enjoying themselves. Underwood is a kid who did not need to travel down here and camp for Joe Sloan, but he did. If you ask me, that's pretty telling on how much he's really considering LSU. The most chatter regarding him has been LSU and Michigan with maybe Ohio State still lurking around. The OVs have gone so smooth and impressive that JUCO TE Connor Gilbreath committed at 10 pm last night. I knew LSU was the favorite going in and that he would likely be the next commitment after his visits, but wasn't expecting him to pop late last night like that.

-- Kudos to Sloan for getting Underwood in and camping on Friday night along with the sheer number of young talented QBs he's gotten in over the two day stretch: Jared Curtis, Emile Picarella, Noah Grubbs, Jaden O'Neal, Quinn Murphy, Brady Smigiel, Carter Smith, Will Griffin and many many more.

RECRUITING Note on LSU OL targets

Georgia OL Marcus Mascoll had been trending toward LSU for months but he took an OV to Florida over the weekend and the latest buzz surrounding him is the Gators have made a move and taken the lead in his recruitment. He is scheduled to announced his commitment later today. Doesn't sound like it will be LSU.

With that being said, sources on the LSU side of things are feeling good about Texas OL Ory Williams coming off his OV in Baton Rouge this past weekend. I saw Williams at Saturday's camp hanging out with JoJo Stone, Ahmad Breaux, Khayree Lee, Jayln Crawford and CJ Jackson. He seemed to be enjoying his trip. He has a great relationship with Brad Davis. Some other schools he's also considering: Texas, Texas A&M, Georgia, Florida and Oklahoma State.

LSU BASEBALL LSU dominating in Omaha

The LSU faithful have a commanding lead in the Jell-O shot competition among the 8 competing schools in Omaha

LSU’s total sits at 9,453 …double the number posted by Wake Forest at 4,323

The two Protestant schools …TCU and Oral Roberts are hanging in at 1,964

All that and the varsity for LSU hasn’t even arrived yet
Go Tigers …

RECRUITING Quick recap of LSU's Friday Night Skills camp

Wanted to get something up regarding last night's camp but this will be a relatively short recap because the final camp is this morning at 9a and I need to head out soon.

-- They had roughly just under 500 campers at yesterday's event. I was told to expect more like 800-900 today by the way.

-- Yesterday's camp was highlights by 2025 No. 1 QB Bryce Underwood who spent a lot of time with Joe Sloan. He participated in everything at the camp, including the first QB up at the 7on7 competition that took place IN Tiger Stadium at the end of the camp. That was the first time ever for a camp as far as getting some work on the field in Tiger Stadium.

-- Underwood is in town unofficially with his family all weekend. He took part in the big dinner last night with the official visitors. It was also his mom's birthday and I saw a video of cake and birthday singing so needless to say LSU is going ALL out. As they should. From what I saw yesterday with the way he rips the ball, that kid is special and crazy to think he's only just 15-years-old. He's got the frame to obviously add weight over the upcoming years but he's extremely impressive throwing the ball. See below...

-- The lone downfall I thought was that LSU didn't have any big name WRs participating in the camp. A few guys separated stood out over others, but none that I knew names of unless I asked. It was a lot of younger prospects.

-- On the other side of the ball, LSU commits Ju'Juan Johnson and Dashawn McBryde were absolutely the best defenders in attendance. Both made plays in the 7on7 action and looked the part of DBU.

-- Frank Wilson was also able to bring in all the top RBs in the state for 2025: Harlem Berry, James Simon, D'Shaun Ford and Nate Sheppard, who isn't as widely known as the other three but really looked the part and I liked what I saw from the Mandeville product. He's got a few offers already, including from Ole Miss. Berry and Simon were 1-2 in all the reps as they should have been. They're skills were at another level whereas Ford is seemingly a different type of back more of a traditional power back (I think). I would have loved to see Ford in LB drills.

-- I'll have more later today and the final camp this morning.

LSU BASEBALL LSU’S Dylan Crews wins 2023 Bobby Bragan National Collegiate Slugger Award

The Bobby Bragan National Collegiate Slugger Award (BBNCSA) presented by SR Bats has announced that Dylan Crews from LSU has won the 2023 award as the nation’s top college baseball hitter. Crews will be honored at a gala in the fall in Fort Worth.

The BBNCSA, created by the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation, was open to nominations from all Division I baseball programs in the country. The award is based on performance at the plate, academics, and personal integrity.

Crews, a junior from Longwood, Florida, has a .434 batting average (3rd in the nation) with 17 home runs and 67 RBI in leading LSU to a College World Series berth. In addition, the LSU outfielder’s overall game has made him a strong candidate to be the No. 1 pick in the upcoming MLB Draft after being named the SEC Player of the Year this season.

"I would first like to recognize the Bobby Bragan National Collegiate Slugger Award Selection Committee for the work they did this season," said Tracy Taylor, Executive Director of the Bobby Bragan National Collegiate Slugger Award and the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation.

"This was the deepest and most talented group of players we have seen in the history of the award. It was a very close race. I think the Selection Committee did a great job in selecting Dylan Crews of LSU as the winner of the 2023 Bobby Bragan National Collegiate Slugger Award presented by SR Bats. Dylan hit over .430 with an on base percentage of .576 and a 1.310 OPS in the toughest league in college baseball. He was the SEC Player of the Year and a consensus All America.

"But that is not the whole story of this student-athlete. Dylan is also on the SEC Community Service Team as well as being an excellent student. He has been recognized for his work with families with physical and mental disabilities in Baton Rouge and with Team Of Dreams in the area. Dylan Crews is a great example of what the Bobby Bragan National Collegiate Slugger Award is all about."

The BBNCSA originally started out in 2017 as an honor going to the top college hitter in Texas. In 2019, the BBNCSA expanded becoming a regional award covering Division I programs in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma. The BBNCSA became a national award in 2020; however, no winner was announced due to the COVID-19 virus which cut the 2020 college baseball season short.

Texas Tech’s Hunter Hargrove won the initial BBNCSA in 2017. Dallas Baptist’s Devlin Granberg took home the honor in 2018 with Texas Tech’s Josh Jung winning the award in 2019. Connor Norby from East Carolina University won the BBNCSA in 2021. Last year’s winner was Ivan Melendez from the University of Texas.

RECRUITING LSU in a good spot with JUCO TE Connor Gilbreath ahead of this weekend's OV

After my conversation with Gilbreath, the feeling I get is LSU has definitely secured itself at the top of his schools and if all goes well this weekend the Tigers could be adding to its TE room.

LSU BASEBALL First two games in the CWS

Let's hope USM wins today (or tomorrow) because Tennessee pitching is much better than USM. After that, I hope we pitch Floyd against USM / Tennessee.

Why? Wake Forest Friday / Saturday / Sunday starters (Rhett Lowder, Seth Keener, Josh Hartle) are a combined 38-3 with around a 2.20 ERA. That makes Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker look mortal. and the Wake Forest team ERA (2.84) is .79 better than the #2 ERA in the country (Tennessee, 3.63 ERA). if Skenes pitches against one of those guys, we have at worst a 50/50 chance to win. If we pitch anyone else, we statistically have less than a 10% chance to win (38 wins out of 41 decisions).

We need to play to win. This guy's opinion is firm: Floyd Game 1, Skenes game 2. then hope for the best after that..
