Great away game …

LSU plays Army in October in TS

Traveling Tigers are always looking for great destination for an away game .

A trip to West Point in the Fall would be an amazing experience for not only the fans but our players as well.

The campus is stunningly beautiful . Michie Stadium looks like a post card scene
it only seats 38,000 but that makes it even better

A stay in New York City would be an added bonus .

There would be financial considerations for LSU since the guaranteed take home would be reduced but still

I wonder if any posters on this site would be willing to take in a game like this

LSU BASEBALL 2023 LSU Stats

Gents, regular season is over and I think we can agree our offense did very, very not terribly. LSU leads the conference is almost every offensive stat

1st in batting average (.310), on base percentage (.440), slugging (.568), runs scored (522), hits, (569), RBIs (478), home runs (115), total bases (1042, total plate appearances (2332), sacrifice flies (32), and hit by pitch (119)
2nd in walks (331).
the only other offensive stat that means much is steals. we are 14th (28). not a fast team or much of a small ball team obviously. Doc had a good point when he said this could be an issue in postseason.

hats off to our Tigers, this is one of our greatest offensive teams ever and certainly our best since the '96 to '98 gorilla ball teams.

Pitching. not as dominant but much better than the last 3 weeks looked like.
1st in wins (42), loses, and batters struckout looking (170)
2nd in strikeouts (604)
3rd in batting average (.227), wild pitches (53), hit batters (46), and home runs allowed (53)
4th in saves 13), hits allowed (400), walks allowed (220), doubles allowed (73), and triples allowed (4)
6th in ERA (4.70), runs allowed (272), and eared runs allowed (244)

these stats are pretty solid as well but took a hit the last three weekends.

Geaux Tigers! first game Wednesday morning vs USCe or UGA. both played us well this year

LSU BASEBALL LSU's offense (baseball) - best in the nation?

In an earlier thread/rant about the complete collapse of our pitching staff by everyone not named Skenes, I said that I thought LSU's offense is the best in the nation. Now that's actually tough to quantify, given the fact that stats are tracked for almost 300 baseball teams and obviously all schedules are not created equally. I don't think it's homerism to say that the SEC is the nation's toughest baseball conference by far, so I think a pretty fair metric would be to say that if you are tops in the SEC in a particular category, it is reasonable to infer that you are tops in the nation as well. With that said, here are our SEC rankings in the various offensive categories going into the final weekend of regular season play:

Batting Average:
LSU leads SEC at .313
(Florida #2 with .305)

Hits:
LSU leads SEC with 553 hits in 1769 at bats
(Florida #2 with 538 hits in 1764 at bats)

Base on Balls:
LSU #2 in SEC with 316 BB in 53 games
(Texas A&M #1 with 340 in 53 games)

Hit By Pitch:
LSU leads SEC with 115 in 53 games
(Kentucky #2 with 104 in 51 games)

On-Base Percentage:
LSU Leads SEC with .441
(Kentucky #2 with .424)

Runs:
LSU Leads SEC with 509 / 9.6 per game
(Florida #2 with 456 / 8.6 per game)

Slugging Percentage:
LSU leads SEC with .571
(Florida #2 with .564)

Homeruns:
LSU tied for lead in SEC with 110 HR / 2.08 HR per game
(Tied with Tennessee)

LSU basically leads the SEC - the nation's toughest conference - in every single offensive category, in some cases by a pretty wide margin. I'm not sure how much it would figure into it, but we also lead the nation in 10-Run ruling our opponents which, theoretically, has limited our offensive opportunities to expand those leads even more.

Now that analysis is far from perfect. It's important to point out that we didn't even play two of the best teams in the SEC in Vandy and Florida - but then again, they didn't have to play us either.

Whether you agree or disagree that we've got the best offense in college baseball, the bottom line is that, with our current pitching woes and the way our fielding is suddenly struggling, you have to pray that we don't squander it. Nothing would be worse than following last year's best SEC team Tennessee with an embarrassing early exit from post-season play, and we've already proven that with this bullpen NO lead is safe.
