LSU BASEBALL LSU vs Ole Miss game one presser

Jay Johnson
  • Thought it was a good win. Proud of his team for staying with it through the delay.
  • They haven’t made a decision on if they’ll move the game up tomorrow. Weather looks bad tomorrow night.
  • The delay only changed the fact that gage didn’t go back out in the seventh. Thought he pitched really well tonight.
  • Thinks they’ve been better with two outs and two strikes, and pretty much all their RBIs came with one of those tonight.
  • Thinks all their relievers will be available for tomorrow, including guys who threw tonight.
  • Thinks tonight was one of their better pitching performances this season.
Gage Jump
  • Said his fastball command was feeling great. Didn’t have the best feel with everything else, so his fastball dominated.
  • Said he would’ve came back out in the seventh if not for the weather delay. Was upset when it got delayed.
  • Says he aims for 65+ percent strikes each night. Was at 68 tonight.
  • Thinks getting the win tonight was massive to set the tone for the weekend in this do or die series.
  • He can go whenever in the SEC tournament. Said he could be ready for Tuesday, but it’s up to coach.
Tommy White
  • Said that was the first time he had a triple since he was 9 years old. Said it was really fun. When he was getting to second, he realized they hadn’t gotten to the ball so he just went for it.
  • Thinks having a bunch of guys rip off singles all game is hard on the opposing pitch staff.
  • Thinks this was a big win, but they need to turn around and win tomorrow.
  • Says the team has embraced the situation they’re in and are locked into winning every game they have left so they can continue to play in June.

OFF TOPIC Mail Bag Questions

I know this is something we talked about doing before and we did have one installment if I remember correctly, not sure why we dropped the series but it's something I'd like to bring back to the site and ultimately run on a fairly regular basis. With that said, hit us up with any questions you'd like to have answered.

Can be anything LSU related (team or recruiting for any sport) or even fun off topic questions.

Any questions that don't get pulled for the feature, will be answered in the thread.

We'll probably mix up some of the replies with the whole staff so it's just me answering every question. I'll have to figure out how we'll attack that, but we'll definitely look to keep it informative, engaging and most importantly fun.

So let's hear those questions...

If you'd like to ask one of the DVI staff members something specific to them, just tag them or include them in your question.

RECRUITING GVSU's Jay'Viar Suggs set to announce his decision today

Jay'Viar Suggs just wrapped up a multi-day stay in Baton Rouge. I got a bunch of texts from contacts over the last couple of days that the visit was going well and that the staff was feeling pretty good about where they stand.

Suggs did not say what time he was going to announce, just that he was going to announce his decision today. Michigan, Wisconsin, LSU and Kentucky make up the final four programs he's deciding between. It is worth noting that he's a Michigan kid and there's been a lot of talk about the distance. I've received texts and calls from contacts around the other finalists, and it seems like they all feel pretty confident about where they stand.

LSU got the final visit and the fact that he's announcing his decision a day after leaving Baton Rouge could bode well for the Tigers.

Keep your eye out for this news sometime today.
