I spent a good portion of Sunday reaching out to sources and talking to recruits or people within their circles. Let' jump in...
As we expected, LSU landed local safety Dashawn McBryde Saturday night. You can read quotes from him HERE in my story. But who's next? Well, highly-touted tight end Trey'Dez Green is announcing his college commitment Wednesday (April 26) at 2 p.m. at East Feliciana High School. I've had my FutureCast in on Green since early last year. It took some time, but Green is ready to make his choice and I'm confident in my pick. He will be choosing from: LSU, Miami, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Alabama.
And yes, LSU made a push for another 2024 tight end Caleb Odom over the weekend as he picked up a LSU basketball offer during his visit. His QB is 2026 QB Julian Lewis. The Georgia duo have all the big offers and it sounds like both walked away impressed by LSU and the red carpet was rolled out as they met guys like Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase. We'll see what happens with Odom is he returns for an official or not but the Tigers certainly moved up his list after this weekend.
Between the Wednesday announcement from Green and when Texas WR Dre'lon Miller is expected to announce his commitment on June 29, I would think there's someone else who could pop in LSU's favor but that's still unclear on who it may be. I wouldn't be surprised if West Feliciana safety Joel Rogers wanted to jump onboard at some point too but he's a little different and kind of keeps his recruitment close to the vest and doesn't talk about it much. I do anticipate him being a Tiger too though. Also, if Miller was picking a school today my pick would be on LSU. They have done a really nice job with the top-50 recruit.
Another in-state recruit to keep an eye on is Ju'Juan Johnson, who backed off his Colorado pledge late Sunday night following a visit for the Buffs' spring game. LSU had not given up on him regardless but it helps that he's not committed any longer. The last time I spoke to Johnson, which was about two weeks ago, he said: "LSU is home. I feel like I will always have a special place with them and they will with me." Because he doesn't play corner full-time he's not as polished as some of the other targets LSU is after but he's a versatile, local four-star they very-much want in the class. I expect others to take runs at him but I think in the end he stays home. I put in a FutureCast this morning for him to LSU.
Next up is the BIG FISH: five-star edge Colin Simmons, who spent the entire weekend in Baton Rouge with his mom and spent a little time with Dashawn Womack and his family -- all who followed Dashawn to Baton Rouge and now live here. Simmons was just at LSU earlier this spring and decided to pop over this weekend (his teammates, Caden Durham and Ka'Davion Dotson, were in town last weekend and he couldn't make it with them). I saw Simmons on the sideline with his mom the entire time I was down there prior to the spring game. He got the full treatment from numerous staffers, his mom too. A lot of the current players know him too like Dashawn and Maason Smith, who spoke to Simmons on the sideline when I was chatting with Smith.) Heck, I even saw one staffer point towards Simmons and tell athletic director Scott Woodward something along the lines of "that's the one" they want/need. After that, I saw Woodward chatting with Simmons' mom.
I still expect this recruitment to go on for a while and of course Texas, Georgia and others will be around until he officially signs but I'm reading his movements and interactions and how much his mom likes LSU -- I'm putting in an early FutureCast on him to end up with LSU. I also put in a FC on Dotson to LSU. I think there's a really good possibility Durham ends up in the class too for what it's worth and I might be putting in a FC on him too soon.
Other recruits I saw on the sideline: Wallace Foster, Ahmad Breaux, Kolaj Cobbins, Khayree Lee Jr., Davhon Keys, Wardell Mack, D'Shaun Ford, Jacorey Watson, Kavion Broussard, Michael Turner, Jashad Johnson, Lamar Brown, PJ Woodland, Caleb Moore, Blaine Bradford, Brody Whatley, Jahkeem Stewart, Keylan Moses and sooo many more.
