LSU BASKETBALL LSU MBB Post Game Press Conference Notes

Matt McMahon
  • Thankful for the win tonight. Felt the guys came out with energy on the defensive end of the court for the first 27 minutes of the game.
  • Complimented Mike Williams' defensive effort tonight. He had six steals.
  • Felt they had great pressure on the basketball for most of the game. They communicated well on switches and were able to stay on their shooters until late in the game.
  • Thought Daimion Collins had a good week of practice and his length was able to help them defend the three on defense. Said he injured his shoulder late and doesn't have a status update.
  • Emphasized that they played well in the first 27 minutes. They feel apart on the defensive side of the ball late.
  • Thought they executed better against the zone against Wake Forest. North Florida went to a zone and feels they were able to beat it with Will Baker in the paint.
  • Said they loved Mike Williams toughness in his recruiting process and that's translated well on the floor. He's still getting going offensively, but he's been getting better each week.
Will Baker and Jordan Wright
  • Wright says they were trying to switch and be aggressive on the outside on defense. They knew North Florida wanted to shoot 30 threes and they were aggressive trying to stop it.
  • Wright called Mike Williams the head of their snake. Says his energy is infectious for the rest of the team on the defensive side of the ball.
  • Baker said it was a big emphasis on getting the ball into the paint and he thought they executed well when they moved the ball.
  • Baker said he's proud of Daimion Collins' resiliency. He doesn't know how much he's going to play every night, but he makes the most of his minutes.

RECRUITING Some Tidbits on Bryce Underwood - What I've heard

I think it goes without saying that 2025 five-star QB Bryce Underwood is one of the biggest storylines surrounding LSU recruiting right now. I've been doing some digging and reaching out to various contacts to see what I could muster up in terms of the latest intel and see if we could get any insight on where he might be leaning or what he may be thinking.

On Michigan taking another four-star QB for 2025

I talked to Josh Henschke from our Michigan site and was told that Michigan plans on taking two quarterbacks in the class of 2025. The Bryce Underwood camp has been informed of Michigan's plans and he basically said that he's not worried about a little competition. So, on the surface it appears he doesn't change much in terms of Underwood's status with the Wolverines. Henschke also said in his opinion it's a two-team race between Michigan and LSU.

What's the Latest

Talked with Rivals national recruiting analyst Clint Cosgrove who has had a relationship with Bryce Underwood dating back to his freshman year in high school. He said almost everything dealing with Bryce now is going through his dad and they're keeping things very close to the vest. Cosgrove also says NIL will matter. He believes it's a two-team race as well, but he thinks LSU is the team to beat.

From the LSU side, there's a lot of confidence and they feel like they're in a good spot right now. I think it goes without saying that he's the top target at QB for 2025 and LSU is really pressing. I too see this as a recruitment that will likely come down to Michigan and LSU, though there are certainly five other schools that are doing everything they can to increase their odds. Penn State, Alabama, Colorado, Oregon and Florida State round out his top seven.

With his Jan.6 decision - If he were announcing today, I'd feel really good about LSU's chances. I still think they are the team out in front right now, but today we're 46 days away from that announcement and in the world of recruiting that's an awful long time, so a lot could change between now and then. We will continue to monitor the situation.

OFF TOPIC Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours!!

All,

Just want to take a quick moment early on this Thanksgiving morning to wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving. I hope everyone has a blessed day and is surrounded by loved ones and great food. I also want to say that I am thankful for all of you, I know I took on quite a challenge in rebuilding this site and we're still very early in that process, but I think we've got a good team in place to build this into not only a great place to get your LSU info, but also a great community. We'll continue to work hard and hopefully we'll look back to these early days and think about how far we've come. Looking forward to continuing the ride ahead. Thanks again to all of you and happy Thanksgiving to you and your families.

-Jefferson D. Powell
