LSU FOOTBALL Dellinger & O-Line Grades

Dont hear much about the O-Line; except when they mess up. I'm curious to know how they have been "Grading" out as the season progresses with JD now being a Heisman Contender + Malik & B Thomas are Biletnikoff Award Finalists

LT Will Campbell had a few 15 yard personal Fouls vs Moo State and benched at the the end of the Moo State game . Seems to be having solid year so far.

Season started rough for RG Miles Frazier vs Florida State....Emory Jones moved into his spot and freshman Lance Heard to RT
....BUT Frazier regained his RG spot and seemingly doing well.

Center Charles Turner has had his Up's and Downs....but stayed locked in as a Starter

....So .....How about LG GARRETT DELLINGER?? Dont think i have seen his name ever mentioned LOL. Guess thats a good thing!
Has he quietly been the "most steady" O-Lineman on the team?

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all here!!

RECRUITING Quick Update on Gabriel Reliford

Gabriel Reliford was previously expected to be in Baton Rouge this weekend, but he just DM'd me that he will not be visiting LSU for the Texas A&M game. He didn't elaborate on why he wouldn't be coming; just simply told me he wouldn't be there. Figured it was worth mentioning since he was previously expected in town this weekend. We'll continue to monitor the situation and update any changes but as of now it seems he'll be a name missing from this week's visitors list.

I know you guys don't like when I bring negative news, I made sure not to title the thread as a "Nugget" so there were no false positive expectations based on the thread title.

LSU BASKETBALL 11/22 Matt McMahon Media Availability Notes

  • Gives credit to his players for how they played at the end of the last two games in the Charleston Classic. Thinks in the North Texas game, they stepped up defensively and in the Wake Forest game, they did a good job not getting rattled and battling back after going down by 2.
  • Loved what he saw from the guys leadership wise this weekend. Their leaders stepped up and made some big plays to help them finish the tournament 2-1.
  • Thinks they need to improve their defensive rebounding and three point defense, but is very pleased with their ability to force turnovers.
  • Likes his teams 3 point shooting and offense in the paint, but feels the shooting in between has been poor.
  • Thought his guys had a great week of preparation going into the tournament. Felt they played really well in the Dayton game, but 8 bad minutes lost it for them. Felt they controlled the majority of the game against Wake Forest.
  • Felt they were losing momentum going into overtime against Wake Forest, but they responded well and fought back for the win.
  • Likes playing in these midseason tournaments. It gives them opportunity to play great non-conference teams and it usually gets you into some close games (as we saw in Charleston).
  • Says when Mike Williams is on the floor, they have their highest plus/minus. Says he does a great job on the defensive and offensive end of the floor.
  • Said he feels the close games will help them when they get into SEC play. Feels all the scenarios they've been in have been great learning opportunities and he's learned a lot about his team through those close games.
  • Thinks they need to improve on their screening and spacing while they're up big. Says in the big runs they've given up, you can find a lot of unforced turnovers and bad shot selection.
  • Says Jalen Reed has been fantastic. His favorite trait about him is he wants to get better and is very coachable. He put on a lot of muscle this offseason and has improved as a finisher. He's a matchup problem because of how versatile he is with outside and inside shooting and his playmaking ability as a passer.

OFF TOPIC Allow me to introduce Kenny Van Doren, new Recruiting Analyst for Death Valley Insider

Death Valley Insider fam, it's with great pleasure that I get to introduce Death Valley Insider's new Recruiting Analyst Kenny Van Doren.

Kenny is a recent graduate from the University of Missouri.

He's worked with The Columbia Missourian, Bally Sports network, ESPN 97.5 in Houston among others.

He came highly recommended from a colleague in the Rivals network and we're excited to have Kenny on board so we can ramp up the recruiting coverage here on Death Valley.

He will be a solid addition to the team and his primary focus is going to be recruiting coverage.

I'm sure he'll hop on at some point to say hello, but let's give him a warm welcome. I know he's a Missouri grad, but those of us that didn't graduate from LSU have done a pretty good job of staying unbiased I would say ;) and we'll continue to do so.

LSU offered Class of 2025 cornerback Gregory Thomas on Friday. Thomas, a three-star prospect by Rivals, plays for American Heritage in Plantation, FL. He has announced offers from six other Power Five programs: Duke, Florida State, Miami, Purdue, Tennessee and Texas A&M. Florida State appears to be in the lead at the moment.

I reached out to Thomas for further comment on his conversations with the Tigers.

11/20 Kim Mulkey postgame press conference - Notes

- Says scoring double figures is not a surprise. Team chemistry comes when they all work together.

- Says we do have length on the perimeter, this team is length but she is still not sure who her defensive stopper is. She loves their perseverance.

- Poa says she wants to play the off guard but they are better when poa is point guard.

- Says she doesn't know what they have planned for the islands. She will mix pleasure with work. A lot will get to see their families and Kim will also. They will get to celebrate thanksgiving. Does not know if entire roster will go.

- Says coaches deal with issues every year. Some coaches may choose not to deal with issue. You love on them.

- Angel was not in uniform but is a part of this basketball team. She will not let us know.

- Proud she had four freshman on the court. They bring joy and they know they are the future. They want to do good and not disappoint you.

- Says you will never be cohesive on the defensive side until all the pieces are in place.

- Says Hailey is not a freshman, she is in a new system. What is hard is you have to know where everyone on the floor is. Says it is just like a quarterback you have to know everything and that is what a point guard does. Hailey wants to learn.

- Says she tells Hailey "angles are more important than some of that false energy." But you never take any kind of hustle play and you want kids to make mistakes playing hard.

- Flau'jae gets the flu and misses a game. No player should get punished and should get back to the flow of the game when better. She did everything she could to get back to the flow as sick as she was.

- Says you coach hard and that gives another opportunity.

- Says this season is no different and things that have worked in the past have worked now. She cannot think of a time when she cannot deal with issues she will protect her players. That is a family in that locker room and she treats them like her kids.

LSU BASEBALL 11/20 Jay Johnson Media Availability - Notes

  • Hayden Travinski is wearing number 8 for LSU Baseball this year.
  • Feels they're in a spot to turn the corner and compete for a national championship again.
  • Thinks they have the best catcher situation than any team in the country.
  • Excited about Jared Jones making a big jump from freshman to sophomore season.
  • Michael Braswell is "definitely" playing short stop. Feels his development has been huge this offseason. Says he dominates on defense, but the biggest improvement has come on offense. Feels he's beginning to use his body better as a hitter.
  • Thinks outfield is the deepest position on this team.
  • Says he was surprised because he liked the pitch clock. Felt his hitters got comfortable with the pitch clock and they're more in tune with it than he thought they'd be.
  • Likes hat he saw from Aiden Moffet this fall. Says some things that stood out to him was after he let up a run to UL and let the next guy on base, he turned around and got out of the inning with no more runs. Says last year he would've let that get to him.
  • Says Cam Johnson has been amazing this fall. Says his physical talent jumps out at you. He does a phenomenal job focusing on one pitch at a time and he's glad he came here over the MLB.
  • Feels the LSU fans make Alex Box the best home field advantage in college baseball. The regional and super regional were something special. Thinks the fans will always bring the energy, but thinks the Box needs to continue to invest in the stadium and change some things to keep up. Says that's in player development and amenities side, but they have other people for the fan experience.
  • Calls NCAA baseball the best "competitive dynamic" in sports.
  • Last years team set the SEC record for most draft picks in one year with 13.
  • Says he's always going to have one of his best guys be a closer. Says winning close games is a hallmark of championship team, so he always needs a great closer.
  • Thinks they have more than 3 starting pitchers on this team.
  • There's going to be a "fight for the ball in competitive innings." Thinks they're deeper than they were by the middle of the year last season. They made it a priority to get competitive pitching.
  • Says Brady Neal is still working through the injury that sidelined him last year. Says he got about 30 at bats at the end of fall and he's pretty confident he'll be ready soon. He may not be able to catch two games in a row though.
