LSU FOOTBALL 10/05 Brian Kelly Media Availability

  • Said after the game he wanted his team to be pissed off, and he says he could feel that in his team during practice this week.
  • Says they know Luther Burden III is going to get the ball, but slowing him down is going to be one of the main focuses this week. Says despite Burden's talent, they still have to be aware of the other weapons on Missouri's offense.

  • Chris Hilton, Omar Speights and Aaron Anderson are all doubtful for Saturday.
  • Feels Logan Diggs has been very effective running up the middle and breaking tackles.
  • Pete Jenkins just got here, but Kelly feels he's been able to help with some technique adjustments. Says it will take some time to see any long term improvments.
  • Says they'll make sure to get a better rotation of defensive lineman in the game this week.

LSU FOOTBALL Greg Brooks Health Update - 10/4/23

The Brooks family, LSU Athletics, and Our Lady of the Lake Health announced today that Greg Brooks, a senior safety on the Tigers’ football team, has been diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer, medulloblastoma.

“For the last three weeks, Greg has been recovering from an extensive surgery to remove a brain tumor that was located between his cerebellum and brainstem,” said Catherine O’Neal, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Our Lady of the Lake Health. “Greg’s speech and ability to communicate has been impacted, and although he is responsive and working daily with physical therapy, he will face months of intensive rehabilitation. The surgery was successful in removing the tumor, and there is no evidence that the cancer has spread. As he begins rehab in the coming weeks, Greg’s family and care team will determine a treatment plan in collaboration with nationally recognized specialists in this specific form of brain cancer. He has a long journey ahead and will need the full support of our community behind him as he faces this battle.”

To help cover expenses resulting from his illness, The Tiger Athletic Foundation has launched The Greg Brooks Victory Fund.

Supporters can contribute to The Greg Brooks Victory Fund here.

"Greg is a fighter and a winner, and we believe wholeheartedly that he will conquer this battle with cancer," stated President William F. Tate IV. "Victories are rarely achieved alone, which is why we're calling on fans from around the world to rally behind The Greg Brooks Victory Fund. Your support will ensure that Greg and his family have everything they need as they embark on their journey to healing and recovery."

A fifth-year senior from Harvey, La., Brooks attended West Jefferson High School before earning three letters at the University of Arkansas. In 2022, he transferred to LSU, starting 13 games in the Tigers’ secondary and helping propel the program to the SEC Championship Game and a win in the 2023 Citrus Bowl. This season, he was voted a team captain and started the Tigers’ first two games of the season.

“Greg has been a daily inspiration to us all,” the Brooks family said in a statement. “He fights like a Tiger each day and continues to make incremental improvements. We have a long road ahead and are appreciative of the support from our LSU family and Tiger fans. Greg has fans around the world and our phones have been ringing off the hook for the last several weeks with words of encouragement and support. Greg is a warrior! Please continue to keep No. 3, and our entire family, in your prayers.”

Launched with support from Championship Health Partners Our Lady of the Lake Health, The Greg Brooks Victory Fund will be operated by TAF and will offset the costs related to Greg’s care, including treatment, medicine, therapy, travel, and more.

Under NCAA rules, LSU is permitted to accept financial gifts and manage an account to assist Greg Brooks. Per NCAA rules, all contributions of any kind must go through this fund. All donors should be aware that financial contributions to this fund are not tax deductible and are not eligible for Priority Points.

OFF TOPIC PSA for the board

on Thursday October 5, the ad lite extension that has been comped to annual subscribers for the previous two months will be removed. That means everyone is going to see an uptick in ads unless you choose to upgrade to the ad lite subscription.

Users who want a virtually ad-free experience (removes all ads except publisher-owned ads) can purchase the Ad Lite add-on product for $2/mo or $20/year. Or to get even more value, the Ad Lite product is part of the Rivals All Access add-on package, which is $45/yr for annual subscribers and $8/mo for monthly subscribers and includes read-only access to all message boards across the Rivals Network. This is something a lot of you have asked about.

I know some will not be thrilled with this change and some will be upset. We haven’t raised prices in 20 years. In lieu of raising prices, we are offering you a way to decrease the ads you see. I’m sure it will be bumpy early on but we will figure it out as we go.

LSU FOOTBALL 10/04 Brian Kelly Teleconference

  • Highlights the playmakers Missouri has in Brady Cook, Luther Burden III and Cody Schrader as players to watch for on Saturday.
  • Says the team is looking to rebound and play to LSU standards.
  • Talked about how important the run game is for the Tigers offense. It helps set up the deep shots Jayden takes, and we saw some of that on Saturday. Says it also help on those third and fourth and shorts because it keeps the defense guessing in those situations.
  • Thinks the defense was apprehensive at times. He just wants to see them go out and play fast and physical. He feels if they can go out on defense and be fearless and free, they'd be much better.
  • Says having a full offense with Jayden and Mike Denbrock is one of the main reasons the offense has exploded this year. Says they really got to know everything Jayden is comfortable with and they got to cater the offense towards his strength.
  • Said Quinshon Judkins didn't take them by surprise because they knew what kind of player he was, but the defense just couldn't stop him.

Program Management

The Robert Steeples experiment is not working. It was a good story and I had high hopes but he is in over his head
Time to move on!
D-Line recruiting and coaching -Failure
We have struggled to even recruit our own state and it shows on the field.
The coach going down prior to fall camp is unfortunate , but thus is Big Boy football.
Place him in an analyst role until he is able to fulfill his duties and sign a Real D-Line coach for one season
Kelly moved Jancek to DLine and I quote “ This is not his specialty”
Are you f ing kidding me.
This is like a gasoline mechanic working on diesels
This is top tier football., not student drivers in driving school.
If I am missing something here please enlighten me.

House is clueless as well as Burns if that was him.

Burns has had experience but why can't House get through to these guys after Burns has had 2 years under him? Are these kids that dumb? I don"t think so .... I'm beginning to believe it's the Coaching , or lack of it! We will not make the playoffs this season without the ability get pressure on the QB. I really hope Kelly doesn"t let misguided loyalty to House get his job!

Troubling Trend

Since the win against Bama last year we have played 10 games. Almost a full season.

6-4 with 2 loses to unranked teams.
45.6 points given up per game in the loses.
0-2 versus ranked teams.

Not the right trajectory for this team.

BK has had some tough breaks - His DL coach leaving in the offseason and the replacement developing health issues at the start of the season. But he is being paid big money to overcome these issues and win.

The rest of this season will show the quality of his program management skills

It’s BS the defensive issues

Are not coaching. We have elite talent in our front 7 with 3 AA candidates. And our secondary is littered with 4 and 5 stars.

Now stars don’t always parlay into production. But we are historically awful. Mississippi state was the anomaly. FSU, Arky and Ole Miss showed us what we really are.

I don’t know if the scheme is too complex, the coaches are coaching the kids to play too cautious, adjustments aren’t being made, there’s a voodoo curse on the D.

Do we need to blitz more? Bite the bullet and play younger players? This deep into the season what can you really do?

BK is going to have some difficult decisions to make after the season.

As an aside, I really like the DL Coach at Kentucky. Watching their game against Florida, they were disruptive the whole game.

OFF TOPIC Colorado

This is not a knock on Colorado. I didn’t expect them to be very good this year. DS had to build a program in less than one year. The team plays hard and with a lot of heart.

But, has there ever been a more over hyped team by the sports media in the history of CFB? After 1 win they put them in the Top 25. After their 3rd win all I heard was “NOW do you believe”? They were talking outside chances of playoffs and Heisman. They had College Game Day on campus. Love the enthusiasm from their fans but they have a long way to go. Perspective escaped all media’s vocabulary.
