LSU FOOTBALL Look at the belt buckle... TACKLE!

Ladies and gents,.. this past year has been steamrolled. My incredible wife is recovering from her Aortic Dissection operation. The surgeon was amazing! He gave her 10% chance to make it out of the operation. She made it and has struggled valiantly.

She has returned to her Teaching position and is doing her normal exceptional job. She was in recovery for 42 days. Two days before she was to be released, a woman following an ambulance ran two red lights and T-boned me. Fortunately, I "only" have a dozen herniated disks in my spine and a broken elbow. My car was totaled. It was paid off and had only 36,000 miles. We kept it in perfect condition.

Well, haven't been inclined to post... but, that absolute worst defensive performance has got me a little motivated on the trivia of life. My Dad taught me how to tackle in sixth grade. He mentored, "go for the belt buckle". Focus on that no matter where the runner goes, his waist is the key. You don't even have to hit them hard. Just wrap your arms around the waist had hold on. They will go down. I once had sixteen tackles in one game.

Not meaning to toot my own horn. I never played after high school. Albeit, had a lot of fun at LSU with ROTC flag football. My Team took Divisional championship. But, tackling was prohibited, lol.

But, that was one of the worst tackling exhibitions I have ever seen. I don't think the problem is on House. Think he is a vey good DC. I saw zone and man coverages. Yes there was way too much examples of players out of position. To these old eyes: if we would have tackled better, the game would have ended differently.

Now I know that is simplistic. There are a lot of issues for this defense to work on. A lot! Yet, the ability of House to shut down teams was evidenced last season. He knows football and is a solid DC, IMHO.

The first thing he needs to do, is get them to learn how to tackle. If they don't do that most fundamental thing, scheme won't matter.

LSU FOOTBALL Three thoughts after the game:

1) I almost never get down on players, but this is without a doubt the worst-tackling team LSU has ever fielded, particularly in the secondary. Maybe it's all these kids coming from smaller schools where they didn't get the fundamentals, maybe it's all the injuries in the secondary, I don't know, but it was absolutely the difference in this game. I stopped counting missed tackles in the 30's. How do you average 8.5 yards per play for the game and still lose?

2) Jayden Daniels finishes the game 26-31 for 372 yards, 4 TD's and 0 INT's, plus another 100 yards and a TD on the ground. He is definitely putting up Heisman numbers this year.

Passing: 116-155 (75%) for 1,607 yards, 16 TD's and 2 INT's
Rushing: 59 carries for 290 yards (4.9 ypc) and 3 TD's

That's about 380 yards and almost 4 TD's/game. All he needs is just the smallest amount of support from the other side of the ball.

3) You don't need any more clear example of Ole Miss not belonging there than the fact that they rushed the field tonight. Almost as embarrassing as that 2003 'Co-Champs' of the Western Division of the Southeastern Conference banner they gathered together to celebrate tonight.

Other than Bama, this was the game I was most worried about on our schedule. We're coming off a win and heading on the road (again), they're coming off a loss and playing at home, it's practically their super bowl and for some reason we never manage to take them seriously. Total trap game and, despite our offense's best efforts, we got trapped. This was an embarrassing effort by the defensive coaches and particularly the players - with just average defensive play and we win this game by 2 TD's or more.
